Lou, I have had problems ever since I got back from Vietnam. That has been over 30 years now. You tell me. Of course it sometimes gets better and sometimes gets worse. Gets better when we are not at war. When was that, again? Gets worse around Fourth of July when idiots set off explosives right outside the window.
I don't know. I think meds dull you down and dumb you out. But I take meds to get to sleep at night, so who am I to talk? I also take meds for the pain in my leg. Sometimes talking with other survivors of what you have been through helps. Sometimes. I found that talking with shrinks that hadn't been in combat was worthless. And being with other vets sometimes got to be a pity party.
All I can tell you is that it sometimes gets better. You lived through a hell. Congrats and welcome home. Some did not survive whatever you made it through, right? Hope you continue to make it, Lou. Honest. Hope I do too... today, one day at a time.

Yes, there is. You don't say what caused this, so I don't dare offer anything specific. But I can offer a few up-close-and-personal observations.
You need to talk with someone you trust about what happened: A good friend, a member of your family, a pastor or a psychologist. Even a dog or a cat: If nothing else, our four-legged friends know how to listen without judgement. You may find that keeping a journal of some sort will help. If nothing else, you will have something to show.
At worst, there are medications that can help on a temporary basis. The cure won't be instant, but it begins when you know you have choices you can use.

The best thing for you to do is come to terms with whatever it was that happened . If you can get a grip and realize that you for whatever reason made it through this can it be put behind you as an experience that made you stronger for having gotten past it ?
Can you someday say to someone ," I had real issues , with a problem back in the day,but , I just held my head high , and it made me , WHO I AM ". You can beat this if you have the headstrong attitude, and are determined that you can.I know I've been there more then once in my own life .

I don't think there is a ''cure'' for ptsd but I know that talking with a professional often helps relieve some of the feelings that you may suffer from. Also getting with a group who have had similar experiences could also help. i wish you luck and hope you feel better soon.

There is no actual "cure" per se. It can be successfully treated. There cannot be an expectation that you can take a pill or go for one visit to a therapist and then it's all over. You will need to work on it for some period of time and the length of that time depends greatly on your acceptance, willingness, and effort you put into it. I wish you well. You CAN deal with it.

PTSD is very hard to treat. There are medications out there but you really need therapy. My brother is a World Trade Center Survivor and to this day suffers from PTSD. He was taking some meds. but without therapy, it just won't work. Good luck. A good therapist is the best thing for you. If you can't afford it try your community health center.

The only 'cures' are time and a solid coping strategy. Sometimes, it comes roaring back if something triggers it, but if you get good solid counseling and coping tools, it does get better.
Never be afraid to ask for help when you need it. That is the best advice I can offer, and it comes from experience.

My only answer is therapy. Whether it is with a professional or someone close. I suffered from the same a few years ago from a family tradegy. My first step was seeking professional help and support from family and friends. i also was given anti-depressants and along with that the dr. prescribed me xanax. its a good quick fix for the really bad days. good luck

Unfortunately there is no cure, but through cognitive behavioral therapy, the right medication, and time, you should be able to control it some, so it doesn't control you. There are wonderful Anti depressants (SSRIs) that can help with this.
