the issue i have with the word is that it doesnt really describe my beleifs. i beleive that there is definalty a god or god like deity or dieties out there. i just think that it's an awful lot of hubris to think that he/she/it/they paticuarly cares about humans. maybe the reason that all of the bible took place so long ago is cause the deity/dieties got bored and moved on to some other project ofits/thier/hers/his. its also not likely that he/she/it/they created the universe, though they could lie and tell us so.

I am an agnostic.
I think you're reading more into this, than there really is.
Simply put, an agnostic, is a person who believes there IS a higher power than we. We even refer to him as GOD.
We just don't go to church because we believe it is not necessary. We believe God is everywhere(omnipresent).
We think that there are too many loop holes in the Bible to deify it.
We believe that MAN wrote the bible, not God or Moses.
We generally believe in what most people believe, minus the ludicrous stories.
We cannot rely on the bible for another reason as well.
Here is an example of how screwed up it is.
To be translated into english, originally, it had to go through a six language process.
The famous line in the Bible: "It is easier for a poor man to enter the kingdom of heaven, than it is for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle." Is in correct.
About 40 years ago, they realized that what had been originally translated was WRONG. It was due to the fact that 2 words looked almost identical. A single squigly mark.
THIS IS WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY:
"It is easier for a poor man to enter the kingdom of heaven, than it is for a ROPE to pass through the eye of a needle. It is still in the bible today. Whoa.
On top of THAT, NOTHING was EVER written down about Jesus or Moses or ANYONE, until 500 years later.
You know, when you tell a story(let's say, in the morning). to a neighbor about how your cat got run over the night before.
That neighbor tells that story to another neighbor, then THAT neighbor tells somebody else and so on and so on.
By the end of the DAY, that story, being told by the 12th person, would be walking around saying...."Have you heard?" The Jones' were robbed by a CAT BURGALAR last night!"
By word of mouth only, stories change a LOT.
THAT, coupled with inacuracies of translation and the 500 year gap, doesn't leave us with any sound, rock hard solid evidence of ANYTHING in the Bible.
It has more contradictions in it also, than ANY book ever written in History.
No matter what advice you look up, if you study it thouroughly, you will find another passage that says just the opposite.
These inconsistancies are what devide people and the reason for so MANY different faiths.
People pretty much just pick and choose what they want to believe or rely on their Pastor or Priest to tell them. They also frighten people by telling them, that if they don't go to church, they will burn in hell. That sounds cruel and a little sick, if you ask me.
It's a pick and choose platform, in the world of religion.
.SO, here's what people decided to do.
Write their OWN bible.
There are MANY and they don't all say the same things. Hence, many different religions.
Agnostics know this and would prefer to stay out of the fray.
We believe there is a god and that he is loving. He discriminates against NO ONE.
He could care less if we go to church or not. He is not vain.
If god was to be insulted by the fact, that you didn't go to church once a week to PRAISE him, what kind of an arrogant concieted guy would he have to be?
We're not buyin" it.
God is not vain and he's always with you, no matter who you are or what you do.
Some people think we are athiests. No no no no no.
Quite the contrary.
We give god more respect probably than MOST CHRISTIANS!
We don't believe for a second that he is that full of himself. Lol!!

What makes you believe there is more than one god?
It is easy to prove the existence of God. New sciences like the field of microbiology gives us DNA evidence on the complexity of the cells. Read up on the complexity of Flagellum. A good book is the Privileged Planet. It takes a look at the universe from a secular view and gives all sides. Another thing is that the field of Archaeolgy is coming up with more and more proof the Bible is real and Jesus exists all the time.

You can argue about religion until you are blue in the face. It always just comes down to this : to believe utterly in something you have no direct evidence of, takes a leap of faith. I include believing utterly that there is no God (without a positive) in that. Agnostics recognize that there is no compelling evidence for a God yet they cant explain why they are there to think that. Therefore they must conclude, honestly, that they don't know. That says nothing about values, which is a different question.

If you believe a God exists but didn't create the universe then who created the god? Who created the universe? Read the Book Jesus Among Other Gods by Ravi Zacharias. But to further answer your question it is unfathomable to me that people don't believe in God, it's like people not believing in my parents. I have a relationship with them and know they exist but someone who has never met them says they don't. Would you be able to accept that?

I'd say forget all labels and categories; doubt every image and belief that any of us have about god. And then use whatever images and beliefs help to get u to a direct experience. Read 3 Pillars of Zen for a Zen perspective.

i'm sorry, Angie. God truly does love you, and that i do not imagine he become the only which deprived you of your emotions. Being reborn as a Christian is meant convey you existence. not that there become something you probably did incorrect. when we align ourselves with God, our enemy will do something to split us from him. you assert God is a monster and conceited, yet I wager you each and every thing that he become grieved once you keen to leave him. My emotions in the direction of God? i like Him because of ways a lot he cares for me and the international. imagine about it. If he completely hated us, he doesn't have despatched Jesus to die on the bypass. He'd leave us all without desire, yet hasn't. He become there 2000 years in the past, and he remains the following on the on the spot.

I have no fellings towards it. To each his own. People judge too much. No one religion or belief is right. We are all wrong.
