The freedom!!
I have spent nearly 30 years raising six kids and extra's, including two special needs kids.

And I love being a Grandma!

The downside for me? Living so far from them now ... but I am the one who moved ... it just couldn't be helped.

Hi Zelda,
I am a mom of three kids who are 19, 15 and 12. Although they are "home" (technically) they are never here. They all have social lives that are busier than my childhood ever thought of being. I missed babies so bad that I became a foster mother to ten children. No not all at once! I am currently enrolled in College. Due to a traumatic event I quit foster care the past 2 years and may go back into it. I believe we all need a purpose in our lives to be happy. When you feel you have no purpose life loses it's meaning. I have battled depression and when I am taking care of other people I am my happiest. Hospitals need volunteers, communities need foster and adoptive parents, neighbors need errands done, people need prayer, there is alot you can busy yourself with. When you take the focus off of yourself there won't be time to dwell. I do enjoy sleeping in when I can and not getting woke up at night to get bottles! Your local schools always need help, adult reading programs always need volunteers to teach people to read. I hope this helps and gives you a few ideas. If you want a glimpse of some needy children look up MARE on the internet and you will see photos of children who need a mom, an adoptive mom or a foster mom.

The best of it is, "No arguing with teenagers" and the worst of it is "No arguing with teenagers". Only an Empty Nester would understand.
