People often forget they have brains when it comes to a topic such as hell. Oh, many persons will ponder on financial or other matters, but when hell is the subject they seem to prefer that someone else do the thinking. They may even push all hope of reasoning aside and declare, as one hell-fire believer did, that if he did not think the Bible taught a literal, red-hot, soul-scorching hell he would throw his Bible into the ash can. That is an extreme case. But it reflects a modern-day tendency to try to make God conform to man’s ideas of how things should be run.
Pagan religions are noted for teaching red-hot hells. The ancient Egyptians, Babylonians, Phoenicians, Persians, Grecians and Hindus taught flaming hells. The Buddhists teach a hell wherein people cook and sizzle in blazing kettles. Is the Bible hell as hot as the pagans paint theirs? The answer is NO.
This raises the question: Did Almighty God create such a place of torment? Well, what was God’s view when the Israelites, following the example of peoples who lived nearby, began to burn their children in fire? He explains in his Word: “They have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, in order to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart.”—Jeremiah 7:31.
Think about this. If the idea of roasting people in fire had never come into God’s heart, does it seem reasonable that he created a fiery hell for those who do not serve him? The Bible says, “God is love.” (1 John 4:8) Would a loving God really torment people forever? Would you do so? Knowing of God’s love should move us to turn to his Word to find out just what hell is.

I guess first off I must ask you what Christians you have spoken with because I am on this board daily and I have not seen anyone speak this way. I don't have a "religion". I believe what the Bible teaches.; nothing more and nothing less. My God is a God of love but he is also a jealous God; something we see in the scriptures. Even in the 10 Commandments we see "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me".
Many say "well Jesus was all about loving each other and "tolerating each other" but what about the story in the Bible where JESUS drove the moneylenders from the temple with a whip; telling them "this is not a den of vipers". This is not the loving act of a merciful God. But in reality it is because Jesus was teaching us the necessity of sanctity within the House of God.
So we see that just like a good parent, God shows us love and mercy when we follow his guidance. In John we see a verse which tells to believe on Jesus Christ and if we do so then we will have everlasting life. Now we know that no merciful God would ever throw someone in a Lake of Fire. But that is just what the Bible tells us he will do after we are judged and found lacking in belief that Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrifice or if we have not truly repented of our sins. Are you willing to risk I might be right???
You see as I don't manipulate God to what I want. God manipulates me to what he wants. Yes, you have free will to do as you choose. But you are also right in that you do so at your own peril.
In all of this, I have not once brought up religion in any sense. I don't believe in Catholicism, Protestantism, Hinduism, Islamism, Bhuddism, Zenism, Baptistism, Lutheranism, Episcopalianism or any other -ism you can come up with. I believe what the Bible tells me and try to be true to its words.

"Me? In hell? NOOOOOOO, god loves meeeeeeeee, you go to hell!"
Anyone who says somthing like that, and proclaims to be Christian, is just giving Christians a bad name. The fact is, some people have their agendas and will use anything as ammunition, including religion. And since Christianity is the most popular religion, it doesnt suprise me that these incidents come up.

God is indeed Love, but the message He sends us is not "believe in My religion or go to Hell." It is much more complex than that. You have to understand that God is perfect, and He cannot stand any form of sin. It is repulsive to Him; so much so that no one can wholly understand it. Even the 'smallest' sin is so foul in His sight, it must be severely punished (i.e. eternity in Hell). But, God loves us so much that He has given us a lifeline so to put it. He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to come to this earth as a mortal man to suffer for our sins and pay the penalty. All we have to do is to accept this truth and to allow God to take control of our lives. He in turn promises to provide for us in all our needs. This doesn't mean that everything will be smooth and pleasant; as Christians we are often tested by trials to help us grow in God's likeness so that we too can become perfect and in the end live with Him for all eternity in Heaven. Now if you have had Christians tell you to go to Hell, I would seriously question their faith in Jesus. Such behavior should not come from Christians and there are hundreds of passages in the Bible on the proper conduct of Christians. Also, you must realize that Christians are human and not perfect, merely we have been guaranteed that our sins will be forgiven in the end. It is also important to note that no one can do any good without the help of God. Only He is powerful enough to do so.
I hope this helped you to understand better what the Christian message to the world truly is. If you have further questions I would recommend finding an expert on Christian doctrine (such as a pastor) to give you more details.

Hell is actually a gun to your head-Believe like me or Burn!. Christ is a thief using a gun to steal the world so that his followers can use his name to justify their sins-WHY WOULD THEY NEED CHRIST TO FORGIVE THEM IF THEY DIDN"T Already Know they were going to commit sins. It is a shame but they have the power right now and they are using it to Kill Justifiably IN THE NAME OF GOD as do Muslims that will sit here and tell you that Allah is all powerful and so is Muhammad. The same of it is that they leave behind them this world that they believe they can trash because they are going to a better place!

God created hell because of satan. God does not want us to go there . He made a way that we would not have to by accepting God as our savior. You can go to hell if you want to no one is stopping you. Think about it though the rich man in the Bible he lifted up his eyes and he saw Lazarus in the bosom of Abraham and cryed for Lasarus to come and bring a drop of water to cool his parched toungue. That is not where I want to be. God blesses us everyday with food and health it is better to serve him here also. May God lead you to see this also.

It is your choice what you do after you die. God loves you unconditionally and it hurts him to see you go to hell. But it is all part of free will. Hell was not made to scare people into becoming a christian, it is just a fact of life. Satan reaps the souls of those who are not saved, and those who are saved go to heaven. That is all there is to it. And it is Satan's fault hell exists.

i'm keen on Sir David Attenborough, i think that's unlucky that he might want to get carry of hate mail. transferring on to the easily question although: it would seem that the beliefs of being Christian are a stark evaluation to being Christ-like. the recommendations which Jesus preached were of the attractiveness of others, and extra acceptable remedy of your people and associates. Do observe about the context and the situations in which those concepts got here about although. that is an same Jesus who's declared to have taken on the ordinary Jewish monks, synagogues, and politics of the day. an same guy who destroyed money making schemes, actually vandalizing them, to attempt to rid the international of such impurities. The definition of being Christ-like on the on the spot would equate to someone who spoke antagonistic to what they sense are moral injustices, yet to pay interest and settle for each standpoint with the smallest quantity of resistance and prejudice. the detest mail being despatched to Sir Attenborough is by using people, who take position to be Christian, gazing their faith dropping creditability interior the international and this forces them to regulate. in the adventure that they are this pissed off then they might seem to have an truly fickle sense of happiness and should be appeared upon with love and expertise. although their habit is unacceptable and probably hateful, with consistent reassurance and mutual respect they might study a thanks to base their happiness on a idea in self, truly than a idea in Church.

Gee, God offers you eternal happiness, He offers you a lifetime (yeah, THIS one) of blessings, He promises to make your path in life straight. You turn Him down for an eternity burning in hell, and then blame Him because you screwed up.

There have always been Christians who didn't believe in Hell. They're called "Universalists," as in universal salvation. Their arguments are irrefutable. If Hell exists, God loses!
