I was so embarassed. It was a 4th of July highlight feature on the news and they actually gave reasons like:
highest rate of obesity
lowest opinion of political leader
etc....and all of this with smiles, candor, and festivities. I'm thinking....Oh my God it's only a matter of time before the right country discovers how to overtake us and we'd have no defense other than weapons. That's my question.....besides weapons, what defense does the US have against a purposeful hostile take over??? Anyone?

To all of you who just went completely off the chain, this just affirms what I'm saying about how ignorant we are as americans. You absolutely didn't even READ and INTERPRET the context correctly. You just assumed that in the text, I'm saying I'm not proud to be an american or that I'm scared that another county is going to take us over....not at all, what I'm saying is exactly what you're demonstrating. We just don't really THINK in general....the basis of our thinking is selfish and without substance. God help us....truly. *shaking head*

I think I'm a pretty smart guy.

That smugness gets trampled upon whenever I visit my friends in Europe. Then I realize, I'm just smart based on American standards.

My European friends are multi-talented. They can communicate in several languages. They can handle a huge variety of professional careers, and have little trouble moving from one to another.

However, I see Americans like myself as only thriving because of the cocoon of safety the United States has created to shelter us from "the real world". Most of us would wither and die if we were transplanted elsewhere. It reminds me of the comment Ashley Wilkes made to Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind" about being "winnowed out".

I hate to denigrate the U.S. I'm a proud Ronald Reagan Republican, who believes as Reagan did that America has a special place in the world, as a "shining city on the hill" to show the world the advantages of freedom and democracy. However, I see how society has deteriorated badly since I was a child. Huge swatches of our country, such as Baltimore, Detroit, Cincinnati, Gary (Indiana) are practically burnt out wrecks.

To see what's wrong with the U.S., and get a glimpse of what it will take to fix it, watch this movie: The Boys of Baraka.

What can we do to fix the festering rot that is undermining our country against foreign hostility? First, we have to retake the moral high ground. That's how we won The Cold War.

Next, we have to stop second guessing every decision we make. Vacillating is a terrible foreign policy. It only invites disaster. Sometimes it's better to stick to a mediocre plan than to keep switching gears.

Lastly, we have to overhaul our educational system. I'm tired of being embarrassed by foreigners who know more about our history, and have a better grammatical knowledge of our language than so many of our own citizens.

That's what I love about Americans, your ability to appreciate irony.

Perhaps the point of the article is that there are not many reasons to be proud of being an American, and even more so, perhaps you have a responsibility to resolve the situation.

In terms of take-over what would happen to the US economy if every country in the world pulled out all investment and resources? In fact, what would happen if the Saudi Arabia alone were to withdraw?

So my advice: get off the high horse, get on a diet and use democracy as it was intended.

Henry Armstrong is 50% community American? it quite is plenty! He ought to truly be regarded by using the media as between the most proper community American athletes ever and not in any respect in ordinary words that yet to boot between the biggest community American human being in the heritage of america. Barack Obama and Tiger Woods get a variety of of advantages for being 0.5 black, properly Armstrong is 0.5 community American so he advantages to also be reconized as an section American. The media is bias and could continuously be that way! it quite is the difficulty!

They've interviewed the wrong people. Ask any old veteran why they are proud to be an American, and they will have much more persuasive answers. The pride of Americans would keep whatever "takeovers" away. And if that didn't work, then the weapons are pretty darn persuasive, as well.

It won't hurt a bit, you will simply slip down the league tables just as the British Empire has done since being No. 1 for the longest period of history in 1888. If English speaking nations have to band together in order not to be bullied by the new superpower(s) we have fundamental beliefs that are unlikely to be given up lightly. Our own governments are the greatest danger to us.

Most Americans are far too big for their boots. All i can say is get a grip and put your feet on the ground. You are no better than anyone else. just because you have a large Country and other nations kiss your *** it doesn't make you the best.
By the way i have very good American friends who are normal but the majority are full of ****

You're a few cans short of a six pack.
Technologically we are superior to most hostile nations. The only way we would ever be over taken is if the country was populated by puss!es like... I don't know... YOU!

We own more guns per person then any other country. If you think the occupation of Iraq is tough Just wait. This is also why the government should not have a list of everyone with a gun.

it takes someone else to tell you that.. the rest of the world has known all those facts for years.

the only defence against is to turn the rest of the word toward your way of thinking, USA will be consumed from the inside by it's own people, who will be defenceless against any act of war.

elect a less corrupt president you might get somewhere
