God allows us to be tempted. If He did not we would not have free will. Jesus Himself was tempted in the wilderness and He did not give in. We mere mortals sometimes do. God allows us to learn both by the consequences of our bad choices and the rewards of our good choices. He is a loving God.

Wow! This question is amazing. It tickles my brain and makes me chuckle. I never thought of this and it's funny.
I believe the prayer reads, "...and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil..." I better check this on line.
I thought leading us into temptation was Satan's job. There will be a grievance filed over this for sure by the Tempters and Temptress Union.
This could have serious spiritual implications.
Edit: I just read some of the answers you provoked. What a great question. Answers should give mega points for asking provocative questions like this.
Thank you for the heads up.

It depends on if you believe in predetermined salvation or damnation for that matter. Read Romans 9. Scary stuff if you ask me, souls suffering for the glory of God, whew. Also if you ask a Hindu, God which is everything and beyond, includes the darker aspects. Some of Gods faces just aren't so friendly. In their version God is like the master puppeteer, so leading one into temptation wouldn’t be totally inaccurate from a Hindu point of view. And as for the Muslims I hear most of them are huge into predetermination, even more so that the Calvinists, if that’s even possible. As usually most religions are conflicted and maybe some of this has to do with reality not being able to fit into the confines of our language. But as I believe human beings who wrote the various texts to these religions were expressing their ideas about God. Well, when finite creatures express their ideas about God weird stuff tends to boil to the surface. Oh, don't get me wrong, I believe in the higher power. I just don't believe everything I read. I only use texts only to get ideas. But when I really want the truth I connect with the source and see what God says to me via the on coming experiences that follow.

God doesn't lead people into temptation.
We lead ourself into temptation. God delivers people out of temptation. The Lord made a compass to help find a straight path to make it possible to cross the sea.
At least that's how I understand it.

I believe the passage goes, "and lead us NOT into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. AMEN."

I would if I was God. It would probably be pretty funny to him. You know, kinda like attaching a $100 bill to a fishing line and watching people chase it down the sidewalk. Anyway, God deserves a break once in a while from all the listening to prayers, drowning people with tsunamis, and getting worshipped and stuff.

Not temptation, those are part of everyday life, they come with the package of life. God puts us through trials, but the Bible says that he gives us trials that he knows we can handle. He always gives a door with the problem or issue.

James 1:12Â Happy is the man that keeps on enduring trial, because on becoming approved he will receive the crown of life, which Jehovah promised to those who continue loving him. 13Â When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. 14Â But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15Â Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death

Temptation it's self is not bad.
You can be tempted to do kind and selfless acts
You can be tempted to study religion, ect. ect.
Still not sure if that means God is doing it, but if you give him credit for everything good in your life, it's fair to say He tempted you.

God will not tempt you, why would he? But he will allow Satan to test you to see the depth of your faith in him. He allowed Satan to test even His own Son for 40 days in the wilderness. Also read the book of Job.
