Seriously, I've never heard of that. For example, you'd be hard-pressed to find a man who would say with a straight face that he knows women.
However, I will say this: it is the nature of human males to hunt and gather. The males who are more successful hunters are viewed as more appealing to females than less successful hunters (the kind of men you women write off as "losers"). This goes as much for money, cars, etc. as it goes for intellectual property.
Therefore, if you have a male in your midst who's projecting a "know-it-all" attitude, possibly he's just trying to impress females such as yourself so that you'll be more attracted to him and/or at least be able to get your attention.
After all, it was one of these kinds of fellas that provoked you to ask this question, right? So, it kinda worked, as I'm sure you've encountered guys who are self-admittedly hopelessly lost, but you didn't raise a question about them.

It's called an inferiority complex. In reality they feel inadequate, so to make up for it that pretend to know everything. A good comparision would be to watch a bully on the playground. Usually the bully doesn't feel as good as the other kids, so to hide it they push people around. In other words, it makes them feel better about themselves, at least for a little while.

I am sorry to say it is because they are stupid. I am a guy, and I fight the urge daily to act like I have all the answers. Maybe its in our genes. I have no doubt that this behavior is the net cause of most of our problems.

Only stupid people will act like they know everyhting and say that out loud. It is a known fact. Too bad that people still admit that they are the smartest once and know everyhing, like some posts above and I'm sure below mine.

Because they like to "believe" they know everything. Not all guys or even girls act like they know everything. People act like they know everything because they have a big ego and are afraid of being wrong. No one in this world knows everything...No One.

Guys act like they know everything for the same reason girls do. Trust me. I know everything, ...and I am a girl.
...for me personally, I tend to "act like I know everything" (when I know that I don't) in order to avoid feeling embarrassed, ...or in order to feel included and/or important among my peers.
...sometimes even to get attention from the opposite sex.

Those of us who are honest, humble and don't always have to be right don't act like we know everything, at least I don't. Some do because they want to impress those around him or to look cool.

because they are insecure, and in order to feel better about themselves, they must act like they know everything. Since girls are proven to be generally smarter, guys don't want to feel insuperior and thus they make a sick atempt to seem like they know everything
