I just had all four wisdom teeth removed yesterday, and I am in a lot of pain. I dont have a lot of facial swelling just a lot of pain in my jaw and inner mouth. I had to get them surgically removed ( i was put to sleep and everthing ) because none of them had erupted yet. ( i'm 21 ) I can't open my mouth very much either. It is kind of stuck in a semi closed position. I have been taking loads of ibprophen and occasionally using ice on the outide, but nothing seems to help. I dont like T3's because they dont work and I cant get a lot of down time because I have a 2 year old..... any suggestions

And how long does it take to heal and for the stitches to dissolve?

When I had my wisdom teeth removed I was on strong drugs, but I understand about having a child to take care of. The best I can reccomend is don't try to eat or talk very much...ice should help. Healing time for me...I took two days off of work and was fine a few days after the surgery. The stitches took about a week to disolve. Sorry that I can't be of more help. Don't suck on ice or straws, that could cause the clot to come out. A friend of mine did that and was in incredible pain for over a week. Talk to your dentist and see if there are any medications you can take that won't effect your mental state. Perhaps Orajel?

If you soak some gauze in salt water and put it in the back of your mouth near your tooth that might help. It will also help keep bacteria from collecting around it, because wisdom teeth are very hard to brush. But ibuprofen is usually only a temporary fix so it's no surprise that it would only last about 5 hours. If it helps though, you can continue to take it, although I would recommend something with acetaminophen (tylenol) because it would be less harsh on your stomach. And I would recommend going to the dentist and getting your tooth that is bothering you removed as soon as possible.

Well I know how you feel . Ice works nice for some time . But t3 or lortab is the only cure I could find, for the pain. There are some herbal remedies that also help ease the pain , but they may be hard to find. Contact a local health food store as soon as you can. My mouth does not open much either. I'm stuck at 1/2 inch for opening . A maxillofacial surgeon said he could fix my jaws, but the cost was over $55,000. and he wanted to use one of my ribs to create new jaw hinges out of it . the alternative was the stainless steel replacements, which most people do not like after they have them , but you keep that rib .... well good luck and hope you feel better soon .......

Try ice packs externally, not very effective but might help some.

Try a marathon session of Teletubbies, Wiggles and Sesame Street for the kid and try to sleep off everything you can. A babysitter would be worth it if you can find one. Rest is the only thing that will truely ease the pain. Beg, borrow or steal to get some help on this...if you can't get rest, you're not worth much to your kid anyway.

Otherwise, you're on the right track. Try alternating Tylenol with Ibuprofen to get the initial pain down. You can probably back off that a bit once you get a handle on it. Don't move much, stay reclined but your head somewhat elevated to reduce the pressure.

call your oral surgeon and ask for a oral rinse that can help deaden the pain.
Ice is good too on the OUTSIDE - warm saltwater rinses but only if they have clotted.
You're looking at about 3 days at least of pain without painkillers!
Get a babysitter and take the drugs!

In my dental office, I would probably give you stronger painkiller like " Tylenol 3", "Vicodin", or "Percocet" because taking out 4 wisdom teeth at one time will probably give you pain for a few days and over-the-counter analgesics is not enough. Just remember to take your medications like penicillin or erythromycin (antibiotic) and follow your dentist's instructions like " Do not spit for 24 hours", "Do not smoke" because if you get so called "DRY SOCKET", the pain will be much worse than you're feeling right now!! It usually takes one week to heal and you should go see your dentist for your stitches removal and let he check any complications.

call your doc for something stronger also, you were asleep during the procedure, they stretch your mouth every which way, you jaws are probably sore due to the exercise they got. I had the same thing done with my wisdom teeth, I don't remember 2 days of my life due to the strong pain killers they gave me.

My friend got drunk after she had them taken out. Dangerous but there was no clots and they healed really fast. If you do this i recommend hard alcohol for disinfection purposes. but if your with your kid use cold ice and every 6 hours use Tylenol and staggered between that every four hours take ib prophen. This may help.
