Once Saved Always Saved is dangerous heresy and not taught by Jesus and the Apostles.

Luke 9:23 "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."
We must follow Jesus daily and are not saved by a one-time prayer to accept Jesus as lord and savior in your heart.

Matthew 19:17 "If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."

Once saved always saved goes against the words of Jesus himself. You can commit any sin and still be saved because you already have accepted Jesus. That is heresy.

Preaching to the choir here - I'm Catholic, we do not believe that 'once saved' you've got a free pass, it's much more than that. We are human, we will make mistakes, we are imperfect - it is for that reason we must continually try to keep the commandments, work hard to repent for what we have done, and do penance as reparation for our sins. (As everyone has the bible quotations above, I'll keep myself from re-typing them).

It's a continual, dynamic, and personal relationship that we are trying to build with Jesus. If we just decide, "Well, that's it I'm forgiven, all done." It keeps us from building that relationship up throughout our lives and the relationship will become stagnant and shallow due to our inability to accept ourselves as human, unworthy and needing of his love and forgiveness on a continual basis, not a one-time thing.

Great question! God Bless!!

If your salvation is dependent upon you not sinning, then you will never be saved! You commit sins all the time that you do not even know about. Besides it is not just actual sins you commit but original sin that is the problem. You are sinful just because you were born, just being human. Note the following:
1. What God begins in his elect children he will finish (Phil 1:6)
2. Nothing (not even the believer) can separate the elect form the Love of Jesus (Romans 8)
3. The Father gives the elect to the Son and the Son dies for those the father gives him and he WILL raise them up on the last day (John 6:37-40)
4. Jesus gives his elect sheep eternal life and they will NEVER perish (John 10:28)
5. No one can snatch the elect from the Fathers hand (John 10:29)
6. What is the term used in the Bible to describe the life Jesus gives? ETERNAL life! If you can have it and lose it it is not eternal duh!
Eternal life is eternal because it is the power and grace and mercy of God that keeps us in spite of and yes because of our sinful weak constitution. He will never leave or forsake us. How can anyone who takes the Bible seriously and look at the above evidence even for a moment think salvation is not forever.. come on.. get real (Biblical real)

Uh, no it isn't. Romans 3:28, Romans 5:1 and 5:9. There are other verses of course. But what you are saying is that Christ's sacrifice wasn't enough. That there is some sin that can cast us from God's presence, that He would retract a gift of salvation. Well a gift isn't a gift if it's not free. Likewise it's not a gift if we have to earn it. You are making God to be an employer not a savior (if you do something wrong I'll dock your pay). Jesus died for all of our sins even before we committed them. You are the one spouting heresy! Also when you become saved you are adopted into God's family. What you're saying is that He will unadopt you if you mess up!

You apparently think that not only have all sinned and have come short of the glory of God but that even after salvation and sanctification and what ever, some people still have a possibility of sinning.
The whole concept of sin is a little weird to me. The sins listed in the Bible are rather vague. There are several sets of the ten commandments and lots of sins. Exodus 22:18 even prescribes the death penalty to witches.
A better gage of sin is the seven deadly sins which are probably only sins if taken to excess in either direction.
As for everyone sinning. I believe it is utter nonsense to believe that infants have sinned or are even capable of sin. It's just stupid to think that. Then there is the dilemma about what point in ones social development can one make moral decisions. This is particularly vexing when one observes that the child is taught to engage in behavior that might be wrong in one culture and not in another.
The Lord's Prayer is also annoying to me. I believe that to forgive is to cease wanting harm to come to another. I forgive rather easily. Does God? If so, why all the complex Christian conceptualizations. Well enough of this.
To some it is heresy, to others it is gibberish.

I like this topic.. b/c the really scary thing is that who knows..and yes I agree with you on a few things..like it is scary and I dont think that people should use the once saved always saved as a playground to sin. My husband sometimes has to help me with this one too. Now if you believe in being saved than you know that you become a child of God. Just like our children..no matter what they do they will always be our, they can divorce us but we will still be their parents. God does not expect to us to live perfectly..that is why He sent His Son..Jesus lived perfect for us. NOW let me say that I do not believe that a person who is really saved can go for long periods of time in sin w/o feeling convicted and asking forgiveness. I am not trying to argue a point b/c I too get scared thinking that I should do more and what if I havent done enough to get in...but like my husband says..Jesus pd the price you are on the guest list. I think that there are people that are not really saved, maybe they asked and were not sincere b/c God knows our heart. Chances are if you never feel the Holy Spirit telling you to repent and reminding you what you need to do, then you were never really saved!

"Once saved always saved" is indeed an incorrect interpretation of scripture and goes against the words of Jesus. However, Jesus says, "If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments," but the Catholic Church ignores at least two of commandments; they do not remember nor keep the Sabbath and they make graven images. That is also going against the words of Jesus. Seems like a case of the pot calling the kettle black to me.

Here is the truth of "once saved always saved." King Saul was selected to be king by God. He then went and did many things that were against God's plan, will, and laws. Was Saul saved despite turning his back on God? Judas Iscariot was a follower of Jesus, but he also betrayed Jesus and then committed sluiced; was Judas still saved when he betrayed Christ? Aquilla and Pricilla were members of the early church, but they withheld some money that they promised to give to the church; when they went and lied about it, they were struck dead. Were they still saved because they were members of the church?

Jesus said, "But those people who keep their faith until the end will be saved." (Matthew 24:13 NCV) So then what happens if one losses their faith? They will not be saved.

Paul also writes. "Now, brothers and sisters, I want you to remember the Good News I brought to you. You received this Good News and continue strong in it. And you are being saved by it if you continue believing what I told you. If you do not, then you believed for nothing." (1 Corinthians 15:1 - 2 NCV) Note that we are being saved if we CONTINUE believing.

Also he writes, "Live in the right way so that you will be saved and your weakness will not cause you to be lost." (Hebrews 12:13 NCV) We have to live in the right way to be saved.

And what does Peter say about it? "It is time for judgment to begin with God's family. And if that judging begins with us, what will happen to those people who do not obey the Good News of God? "If it is very hard for a good person to be saved, the wicked person and the sinner will surely be lost!" So those who suffer as God wants should trust their souls to the faithful Creator as they continue to do what is right." (1 Peter 4:17 - 19 NCV) We must CONTINUE to do what is right!

I do not see where "once saved always saved" fits in there.

Mahatma Gandi came up with his own list of seven deadly sins. One of them was "Worship without sacrifice." To me, that means knowing the path, but not actually walking it. Let's try explaining it this way:

You and I are going on a sin spree. I say "Lord forgive me, I really didn't mean to be so bad...." and go right back to that path of naughtiness. Think I learned anything? Think I really meant what I said in that prayer? Think my heart is truely in the right place? Nope. I just want to feel better about myself. But I go right back to my old habits.

Now, you have an epiphany, pray for forgiveness, and live by the rules of the faith. You meant your words, and lived by the will of God. That means you walk the path. People with faith don't live as they wish. They take up their burdons and try to live the right way every single day. Making their choices and taking the hard road every single day. Fighting the urge to slack off and enjoy sin every single day. That, I think, more than anything else is what drives religion. It's praying each day for the strength to be a good person, and do the right thing. Especially since the wrong thing and the easy way are so darn tempting.

Few Christians these days are willing to worship AND sacrifice. We like comforts, we like our world. We see our cozy life as a sign that all is good, and we are deserving. We're in favor, look at all we have! It's harder to turn away from sin and choose that harder path. I think that true faith really only seems to come during hardship and testing. Very few people have to cross a desert on foot anymore.

That's pretty dangerous talk. It's bordering on judgmental. People believe what they believe. The Bible says believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. Many people who want to continue in their sins take the free gift of salvation but do not accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ. More people accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ in certain areas of their lives and not in others. Who is saved and who is not. The Bible says : "the Lord knows who are His." Our differences should not divide us . Pray for those who differ with you. But more important love them. We all differ on one point or another. And none of us has ever said, I am the Truth. Only Jesus could say that. I sincerely hope that those who accept Him as Savior but do not clean up there live will make it. I'm not sure if they will or not. I can only be sure for me and I am "working out my salvation with fear and trembling "as the Bible says to.

This subject has many Christians very confused. You have to remember that Grace plays a big part in this issue. I don't believe that once you ask Jesus into your heart you can go about your life as usual and mess up and not think nothing about it.

It's all about a personal relationship with God, not ritualistic tradition as Catholics and others teach.

once saved always saved is a lie!
Jude 5, RS: “I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully informed, that he who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.”

Matt. 24:13, RS: “He who endures to the end will be saved.”

Phil. 2:12, RS: “As you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”

Heb. 10:26, 27, RS: “If we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries.”
