Take her to your vet for a check-up, to rule out illness or disease as a cause. Your vet will then be able to give you recommendations on the kinds of food, an dhow much to be feeding, how to interest cat in more exercise, etc.

try having her play with a feathery toy or string. Pick her up a lot and have her "walk" to werever she wants to go. She is at a lazy age also. Once a cat turns 9-11 years old, they start being lazy (its what cats do best). Give her a healthy diet by instead of puttin a big bowl of food out for her each day or 2 days, give her a scheduled meal plan like this: 3 times a day she gets 3 small scoops of hard food, 4 times a week she gets one spoon of wet food. Its should put her back on track. Some cats dont liek walks on a leash but giving it a try could help. Good luck!

If your cat loses weight, she will feel better and she will become more active. First, find out from your vet how much she should be eating a day. Feed her twice a day and do not give her anything else. Be sure to always have a lot of fresh water because all cats love nice, fresh water. Try to get her some toys that she likes or used to like when she was thinner and play with her several times a day. Even if she does not play at first, she should start responding when it is easier for her to get up and move around (just like people). We did this with our cat who is the same age and he seems like a new cat. He has regained his curiosity and is always into everything just like a kitten. He loves little fur mice, boxes, paper and just about anything that moves!

We overfeed ourselves and get fat but we don't have to let our pets have a shortened life because they don't feed themselves, we feed them. You obviously love your kitty so help her to lose weight by feeding her less and keep trying to play with her to get her to exercise. Also, have you considered a kitten sometime? Some cats love a playmate but only you can determine if both of you could handle another pet around the house. Good luck!!!

First talk with your vet about her and see what foods he recommends. Next - get a peacock feather (some zoos sell them or you could search on google.com for them - I found them this way) she will chase it - but do not let her play with it where she can chew it - the feather is bad for her. The cat will want to chase it. Get some catnip and put it in a small egg - like the kind used for Easter egg hunts and toss it lightly so that it doesn't break open and see if she chases it. That will become a game to her (add basil it will make the scent stronger). Get a small ball of yarn and fix it so that she can chase it (also with catnip inside) but so that it will not unravel when she rolls it. Get a laser pointer and point it at a place just in front of her and see if she will chase it. This can be very funny as she loses weight and tries to climb a wall to get the "laser mouse". Basically start playing with her. Limit her amount of food - to about 1 cup a day. There are some very good "fat cat" foods made by P&G like IAMS that will help her to lose weight, but again check with vet and see what food he recommends. Good luck

She sounds bored. Work in some play time with her. A Cat Dancer is a cool, simple toy that most cats adore (even my cat, who turns her nose up at other toys). You could get a laser pointer and use that on the floor, or you could get a little remote-control toy for her to chase around.

Have you tried cat toys that have treats inside them that she can get by batting them around? It would slow down her eating and help her use her hunting instincts. Then there's the old bird-feeder outside the window trick... be aware that your cat might "bark" at the birds, though.

My cat also likes going outside on supervised, leashed outings into the garden. Other cats I know also love to just hang out under plants and watch the birds and squirrels, even if they're on a cable or leash.

You might want to get her a buddy - it could be another cat, or maybe a dog. My cat and dog keep one another company very nicely.

First, use measured feedings rather than free choice access to food. Adding a teaspoon of canned pumpkin to the diet for fiber and bulk can help lower caloric intake and also help with potential constipation problems.

Second, wet/canned food tends to have higher protein and fewer carbohydrates ('Catkins' diet) than dry food, so a diet composed of primarily canned food can also help with weight loss.

Third, even tho your cat isn't a kitten anymore, try spending time playing with her--a peacock feather to tease her will often get a bored cat playing in no time, which burns calories and helps with overall energy level.

To be sure there isn't a physical cause for her lassitude (such as arthritis, for example), be sure to get her checked out by your veterinarian.

Train it to do some tricks. Teach it to sit when you say. You do this by holding it by the neck gently and between the legs. Say sit then push up on the neck a little and pull the rear down. Now pet it or give it a treat. Do this like 5 minutes at a time cause they lose interest fast. Soon it will sit when you say. Teach it to come too. Do this by petting it a lot so it likes you. Now say come and bend your fingers in. If it comes pet it. Only teach it one trick at a time. Try teaching it to jump through a hoop.

Same situation with me. My cat got fixed( you know) and after that she gained so much weight, because she was in pain and she ate and slept most of the time and now that she is healed, she is in a routine of that. Try giving her controlled amounts of diet cat food and buying her some new toys you know she will love, and just switch the toys every now and then so she wont get bored.

my cat is about 5 and he's pretty fat too. the vet suggested this new food we have to buy from the vet's office and then we have to portion control as well. pounds fly off when kitties are on diets. well cats I mean but kitties is a funny word so. hey get her fun toys too, maybe she needs a little bit of stimulation?

ohh but whatever you do please take her to the vet, you don't want her getting diabetes because you have to give her shots and that's not a fun thing to do.

Get some rolling cat toys and rub cat nip all over them. That way she'll try and go after the catnip but the ball will roll away from her causing her to go after it in order to get the catnip.
