This woman is as thin as a toothpick and works out for hours, full blast almost everyday. What do you think?

Certainly the gym is responsible to help someone with an obvious anorexia problem. The gym is in the position of the reasonable man. If they fail to act, they are liable for any damages that may occur. Any waiver that nearly any gym requires that gym members sign is worthless. They are still liable. If you know this woman, you too have a moral not legal responsibility to try to help. You can talk to her, her relatives, her doctor.

No I do not. They also don't need to help people who are obese, or otherwise encumbered by some problem. Sadly we can't save the world - and this lady probably doesn't want saving.
If you work out there, maybe you as a fellow gym goer could become friends with her and help her that way. I think if the staff did something they might lose customers, get fired, or in trouble. She could be easily offended...and only a doctor can really say if she is anorexic or just very thin.
:o)

well, thats a hard one. i mean, she very well could be anorexic.
or - there may be another factor. she may be recovering from something. like cancer. some people when in recovery and remission are healthy enough to workout etc.. and do so to regain their strength etc.. maybe there is someone who knows her who may be able to confirm her health history or anorexia.
its a hard call. my sister is totally thin. like super thin. though not anorexic. just a scrawny little thing. and though she could put on some mass by working out, she is naturally thin.
if she is indeed anorexic and able to keep the fat off by neurotically working out - then thats really her choice i guess.
i wouldnt know what to say to someone like that if i approached them. thats where the tact would have to be applied.

anorexics live in denial. A gym can't tackle her emotional/psychological problems anymore than they can tell the 350 pound client what to eat (unless the client asks).

No. They have a responsibility to provide the services they promised when she joined, nothing more. The gym is a business. However, basic human decency should corral this problem up. You should get to know her.

I don't think that's the gym's problem though, they can't keep track of ALL their members. I think the person's friends and family should deal with that.

they should but they won't. it's kinda like the dilemma of do you perform cpr on someone. if you try to help and she takes the advice...and then something really bad happens, she could probably file a lawsuit. it's pretty messed up but that's how it works. sometimes you get burned if you try to help.

That's not the gyms problem. It's hers.

Maybe this woman is extremely motivated. Unless you know for sure, don't worry about it.
