There are kids at that age that are already alcoholics or on their way to be. Parents don't watch very well and the kids just have to see what the parents get out of it. So they try it. Next party and they try it mabe because they want ot try a different one or maybe the high last time was good, maybe it is a way to dull the feelings of parents who aren't involved with them. Friends come over and they hide and show them what they are doing. They put it something to show the kids at school that they ARE TO drinking and then the other kids try it. These kids were lucky because they got caught and maybe(?) got turned around. If not it won't take the kid's small body long before it is addicted and going downhill before they have a chance!

Yes. Except it used to be cigarettes they passed out behind the school house. Now, those are like chewing gum to these kids.
When I was a kid and when my kids were in elementary school, the parents would have been made to outline the consequences the child who handed out the contraband would have to accept at home. Then the punishment at school would be over and above what the child had at home. Everyone--even the children---were made aware that there were consequences for such actions and that those consequences would be carried out----period.
I imagine the kid was suspended, the mother yelled at him for taking her out of work, took him to a daycare or a babysitter, she went back to work, and the dad--if there was a man in the house--probably could have cared less---"That's my boy!" Then the whole issue was dropped. But I don't know that for a fact. Just surmising from the lack of discipline that is displayed in other children, teenagers, and young adults I've experienced in real life, and in the writings on these boards.

Sadly, incidents like this one happen regularly. The boy being suspended was only putting a band aid on a bullet hole. Where did he get the alcohol from? Does one of or both of his parents drink? It's not like he could walk into the local liquor store and walk out with a bottle of his favorite whatever. It's just like leaving a loaded gun in the reach of a child, he or she is going to be fascinated and want to take it to school to show it off. And did we forget that children this age are like sponges. They soak everything, so if the little boy saw someone he trusts drinking, naturally he is going to want to drink some too.

Kids are little buggers aren't they. There is always one who will do everything they are not supposed to do.
The boy has been punished, but he will do something else just as bad to somebody else. He just seems like that kind of kid, you know, find cigarettes at home and convince some poor unsuspecting kid to give it a try.
He'll probably be the one who gets the good kid in class to ditch a day off school, or to stay out in the evening that extra hour, or to give him your dinner money.
Lets admit it, when we were kids, we all knew that ONE horrible kid that we knew to stay away from, but he was just always there.
Hopefully he will eventually learn, but I doubt it!!

Whoa. I have never heard of anything like that before with children so young. I've only heard with older children. I'm surprised she drank enough of it to feel sick, because most kids think liquor has a bitter taste to it. I would have done the exact same thing as that parent did.

Not surprising! I've had a second grader suspended for having marijuana and a third grader suspended for carrying a gun to school! Why would liquor surprise me?

yah I'm sure that happens a lot. They both should have been suspended though, not just the boy.
