CLICKER TRAIN.... Start with a bowl of treats and a clicker and Click treat, click treat , click treat....20-40 times... then teach a "touch command" ... rub a smelly treat on your hand... and SIT on the floor ... every time he sniffs your hand..click/treat... then when he will touch your hand every time you put it out... start sayin g TOUCH when he does... You can then repeat with different body postures... and get other people to go throught the exercize with him... there is GREAT info online about clicker training... try www.clickersolutions.com & www.clickerlessons.com

Keep loving him, and NEVER hit him. He may not know what 'sit' means. You may have to teach him that by giving the word 'sit', and then pushing his behind gently down and raising your hand just above his nose if you are using a treat. Raising his nose and putting pressure on his behind will 'help' him to sit. Then, even tho you helped, PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE!! Every time he does something right, even if you put him in the position you want him to be in for 'sit' or for 'down', PRAISE him and give him a treat or a pat. You don't have to stand in front of him to do this. You can sit beside him, kneel on the ground.. whatever works.

Say 'sit' only one time, then put him into a sitting position. If he messes up, or lies down 'scared', gently tell him NO or WRONG, do not yell but use a firm voice. Dogs can learn what a word for 'wrong' means.. and they can learn that this new *human* is not going to abuse them like the other ones did.. but it takes a long time. I have 'rescued' a couple of dogs from bad situations, and it just takes time.

You might try clicker training with him, too. Go to google and enter these search terms: "clicker training" dogs

All the best... I hope to hear that this little bit helps, and gets you on the right track. Remember.. always assume that a dog does not know what you are asking, at first.. and you have to teach them what the words mean! Just like you did not know what a + sign or a % sign meant, until someone taught you!

Clicker train and don't even think about corrective training. I don't think that you should sit to train him because then you would be stuck sitting while giving commands for the rest of his life and that would not work during competitions. I would reccomend standing in front of him and giving him some high value treats (hot dog, cheese, beggin strips) while he is lying flat on the ground. then do something to get him to stand up. Back up and call him to you, jump around etc. and give him the same treats while he is standing. I highly reccomend the site in the source because you absolutly must clicker train that dog, no corrections. You can get clickers and clicker training books from pretty much any petstore but you don't need a book if you use this site.

You can take him to see an animal behaviorist or you can just let him experience the love that you have for him instead of trying to train him to do anything. Most dogs that have been abused before are only really good to have a pets...not to be trained for much other than to be a companion. They have already been damaged mentally to the point of the only thing they want out of life is to be loved and treated like they are the sun and the moon to their new owners. I would just let him be a dog, a friend, and a companion to you and not worry about making him learn much more than how to use the bathroom outside. You've had him for 3 months...that is such a small amount of time to take the place of the torture that he had gone through before you got him. I hope this helps you out and good luck!

you at the instant are not likely to be able to teach a 9 365 days previous dogs round in a single day. it really is too undesirable you waited so long to be bored to death with this now ingrained habit. once you've only one dogs, the citronella collar looks to artwork the merely excellent. the subjects with it really is the inconsistency of the correction. different dogs barking and loud noises can set it off. The severe pitched sound collars do not artwork in any respect quite frequently. The vibration collars artwork properly as long as they are geared up properly. Taking this dogs to a dogs park gained't help it. truly doing so can make the difficulty worse. you want to commence by using strolling this dogs on your community first. you also opt to commence some sensible obedience guidance. A clicker isn't a magic device. It takes as a lot proper timing and consistency as utilising a distant collar with the intention to be sensible. on your issue on the door you want to coach your dogs what to do even as some one earrings the bell. This is composed of using a leash and the take a seat command. a competent coach on your section can artwork with you on those behaviors.

You said when you stand in front of him he cowers. That says the previous owner took that position for punishment. Try next to him and see if that helps. As for training, you are aware of his past, go easy and slow. It's harder to untrain a dog that has been abused than train one that has not. Be patient, slow, understanding and most of all, speak softly and tenderly. He will slowly recover and come out of his shell before you know it. I feel for you and your dog. Remember only bad owners make bad dogs, not the other way around.

With a lot of patience, love, affection, and kindness. When he hets scared, talk to him sweetly and pet him vigorously. Show him with your facial features that you are being kind and not mean. Try sitting on the ground at his level adn asking him to sit. You may not seem so intimidating then to him or as big. Be sure to be kind and loving. It will take him a while to not be scared.

Do not stand in front of him, you loom over him and bring memories to him that are unpleasant. If you had been beaten then someone did something to remind you you would feel fright I am sure. Try getting closer to his level maybe, let him come to you. When he is ready to trust completely he will but it will take quite some time. nothing will come over night for you and him and you have to be understanding of him.

Some things take time. If this dog is scared, then the next time you stand in front of him, and he is scared, pet him and talk softly. Then move out of in front of him, to show him that there is nothing to be afraid of.

Ok...you ignore the advice about training that I gave in the other section..LOL...whatever you do, don't whoop this one. This is just going to take alot of time and gentle loving. This one you may just want to love for a while and start training when he has more trust in you. In the meantime, give HUGE rewards for doing his business outside.
