I don't think these two nations would intentionally try to provoke a war specifically with the US. They know how potent our military is and that they would pay dearly, especially if we were provoked. The justification these nations are using as an excuse to have nuclear weapons is that "they need them for self-defense". This is probably true in a sense. They know that if they have nuclear capability that they will be taken more seriously. There is no way either one of those countries would be associated with a nuclear attack on the US. N Korea has at most 6 nukes. As everyone saw on the 4th they weren't that successful with their missile technology. There is a big difference in claiming to hit the west coast and actually having that capabillity. In any event, if they did launch a nuke then they would have to be prepared for complete annilation. If another country attacked us with nukes we would basically turn their entire country into glass...an we DO have the missile technology. We have missiles that can go as far as 14,000 miles and take out several cities at the same time with their seperate nuclear warheads. Literally, with one of our ICBM missles on a boomer submarine, we have more nuclear warheads than all of N.korea. ....
As far as a conventional war, N Korea would be the biggest threat, and that's only if they tried to drag us into regional war on the korean peninsula. It would probably have much the same outcome initially as their invasion did in 1950. They have far superior numbers on the DMZ right now...but our Navy is bigger than all the other navies in the world combined tonnage wise. And our Air force is unparalleled both in numbers and technology. I'm sure that any N korean invasion of the south would peter out within a week because of our conventional cruise missiles, planes, and surely heavy fighting by the US forces there and certainly that of the S koreans. That's another thing, the S Korean army is one of the most disciplined armies in the world, and they are supplied by the US....A conventional war with N. Korea would probably be very costly for the regular infantryman, but also relatively brief.

Iran on the other hand would probably drag on and on much more so than in Iraq. They would not fight us convientionally because they don't really have the means to do it. They would probably wait for us to attack them and then let us get deeply embroiled in there territory. They are an Extremely proud people and you could COUNT on a vast majority of the population joining a cause to rid the US from Iran. It would be costly over time, much more so than in Iraq. Probably a better comparison would be like the Afghans and the Russians in the Late 70s all the way to the late 80s. It cost the Russians 100,000 lives...Iran right now has 4 times the population of what Afghanistan did in their war....

But, I don't think we really need to be protected from them anyways....I think that we should try to contain them...It has worked time and time again throughout history. Like the Soviet Union for example...and they were much more of a threat and more oppressive than both Iran and N Korea combined.

Iran poses no direct threat to America. It has never once even indicated otherwise, nor has it proven the technical ability to pose a threat.

North Korea? Well the US is good enough not to be completely destroyed by North Korea.

to the person who wrote that Iran never posed a threat to the US may not understand that yes, dear, they DO since they have been very clear in letting the US and the world know they have the long range missles capable of now making all the way to the west coast. That, in this launguage is called a threat. Are we capapble of protecting ourselves, yes. the problem is that the liberal minded Democratic Hillary, Bill Clintons, and John Kerrys whineyassdbabyletemkillusfirst of the USA wont let us.

We've beat N Korea before and Iran's military is mostly suicide squads. Yeah, we'd cream them.
