No. The New Testament is based on the Old Testament. Therefore, if the NT is relevant today, than so is the OT!!! However, I must be careful, there are types and shadows we must consider. Check out Hebrews 10.
As far as homosexuality being an abomination, the Bible, both NT and OT, is very clear. Don´t risk your salvation with other´s misinterpretations. Accept the clear texts and question the suspicious interpretations.

I am reading a book called Magdalene by Angela Hunt. This book talks about what it was like for her in her day and time. It makes it easier to understand what was believed and what it meant to be a prostitute back then and even how she ended up in that profession. It is very enlightening. Francine Rivers also writes books about women in Bible times and what their everyday life and customs were. These books are at the Library.
Sin however is still sin. Sexual sin is not a skin color or a nationality. It is a choice. The Bible does not affirm that choice. Being a homosexual, bisexual , adulterer, or any kind of a sinner is still being a sinner. We all have a sexual nature and we are all responsible for our choices. I have made bad choices and sinned, although I am not homosexual. I never did try to find a way to say my sin wasn't sin. And I have worked on changing those things that are not God's will for me. I have had to stop drinking and stop smoking. And right now I am working on weight issues and on relationships. I am responsible for my life and my choices. I am not condemning you, only sharing my experiences. God loves you and I do too.

Yes, the OT was written based on culture. Note that the reason the anti-homosexuality stuff made it into the OT was because the Jewish tribe wanted to distance itself from what it considered pagan practices -- homosexual sex was normal for the various peoples -- (and make iitself the 'special', 'chosen' group) and to increase its numbers (therefore, non-procreative sex was made immoral).
If the OT is not culture-based, then how do people explain the fact that wearing clothing of 2 different weaves or cutting your sideburns are considered mortal sins by God?

It kinda was and wasn't it was culture, old beliefs, the jewish beliefs, and more so an example of times past before the New Testement(Law). Also, yes in the New Testement the law of being gay is also renewed and is still an abomination/sin today. The Old Testement/Law was as it is called the old law..it is an example and nothing else I'm not putting it down it is something that we shold study on but not look for the rules and things for our lives as Christians today.

The Old Testament was based more on stories and life lessons that we should follow. It has more culture because you're reading stories written by people.

The Old Testament without question mirrors the language, culture and time the authors were living in. I pity anyone who believes OT declarations of homosexuality apply today, since the pertinent verses usually involve . . . you know, killing.
