The question to ask is : Does faith help you be a better person and give you something to cling to during tough times? If yes, then just assume that God exists.
I am an agnostic and can't believe in God, for I see no proof. But if you can, and it helps, you should.

God is where you find it and what you want it to be. If that's in the Bible, more power to you. If it's in the coke can, so long as you get what you need from it, that's good enough. If you don't need anything from religion, do count your blessings, but otherwise just go on living and letting live.

Also, remember that the Bible is but one of many holy books of many religions. Consider Buddhism which has no god, only cosmic power that humans should aim to join...or Hinduism which shares the cosmic power idea, but below that, any of us could be reincarnated into a god or a demon (depending on our Karma), and a god can be reincarnated as an insect...

Lots of things are written down. Believe what you have the best reason to believe. That way if you go to hell when you die, you will know you are going on your own terms, and not just because some idiot person, maybe a televangelist or President, led you unquestioningly astray.

God exists but it's not the god that our minds have created. Our minds fashion god into whatever image and set of thoughts we think is appropriate, project it outward, and then believe that god is like that. All the gods -- christian, jewish, islam, volcano gods, etc. -- are just projections of our ego thought system.

So, what is the god that exists? It's something that Buddhists called the Void or the Ultimate Ground. And it's not something that is believed in or that words can describe. It can only be directly experienced (words can't describe the experience because the experience itself tells us that we're not this individual consciousness and that the dualistic world/universe is not the whole story). Jesus had the experience, so did the historical buddha. Anyone can but the ego is a big thing to overcome -- read '3 Pillars of Zen' for more info. Note that those who have this experience fully resolve the issue of life and death and experience a happiness that is millions of times more powerful than anything they've ever imagined.

Your question has already been asked 4,456 times. don't believe me? The little green bar above is captioned: Search for questions: Enter the exact question you just asked. You could have saved yourself 5 points if you had searched for that question first and would have found a myriad of answers. Instead, you're giving me two points for acting the fool, knowing full well you jst needed a little attention. Next time you have a stupis question like that, I suggest you strip off your clothes and run down the street naked because police do not exist. I know there is no such thing as police, if there was, they'd come bust all the da** drug pushers on my street.

Well, you answered your question in my opinion. You posted that the bible was written by man, though the bible says it is the word of God. Is it not possible that man said it was the word of God? The only reason we have to believe that there is a God, is that religion and human nature have told us there is a God. If we humans had no notion of a higher power in any way(assuming), then would an "Act of God" not simply be a coincidence?

In my personal opinion, the Judeo-Christian version of God as described in the bible, no.

There is no God. There is absolutely no proof at all that God exists. No more than there is proof that all the Greek Gods exist.
Or that Dante's version of hell is accurate. They all come from books which came from the IMAGINATIONS of HUMANS.

The fact that matter and energy are ever-present in no way indicates the existence of a supreme being. Simpletons would say, "then how did we get here?"

Well, then who created God? - DUH

Believe in what you can prove with science, everything else is pure speculation.

Trust me...God does exist...Because God has intervened in my life, I KNOW He exists...There is no way I can believe that He does not exist....

And guess what?...Trying to take God out of schools, the pledge to the flag, the courts, or whatever, will not work...You CANNOT get rid of God...It is impossible...not possible...can't be done...just can't be done.

And just because folks believe He does not exist does not make it so...Give it some time...maybe you will also know ...just as many others do...Do not give up on God...He is there.

Oh, almost forgot...It is a historical fact that Jesus did live & teach here on Earth...and still lives spiritually today. He has had a profound impact on people's lives...then & now.

The Bible is NOT for our entertainment! It is a book that exhibits an unseen power from every page that you turn. Look at all the "so-called" Christian faiths that exist today(the last that I heard was about 26000 "Christian" denominations. The Bible predicted that in order to understand what is being said, you need discernment. Do these other denomination have discernment? Why can't they agree? GOD created one Bible and in its pages exist ONLY ONE TRUTH!!!

the bible was written by men inspired by the holy spirit. the bible has never been proven wrong in any aspect. Nor has it been proven false. Archaeologists have been known to take a copy of the bible with them when they go on digs in the middle east. All the known locations told of in the bible for cities and so forth have also been found.

Well there are two issues in your question. You ask if God exists, but then you also point to the bible.

Many people believe in God, regardless of the relevance of revealed scripture, as the uncaused cause, or aristotle's Unmoved Mover.

well, aside from what the bible says...we do know Jesus existed...archeology proves that....so, i guess anything beyond that is where faith comes in....however, they've proven the steps and life and acts of christ, even those that didn't seem explainable...so, i would think of scholars agree he existed and did what the bible says, it's a good sign God exists...however, as a christian, i don't think we as a church, a religion, a faith really can comprehend the existence of God...but I've "Seen" him in my life...and I've felt he wasn't even there...so, what does it come down to? Faith I guess....But when people open to allowing God in their lives, they'll see the proof....sorry, i don't seem to have any scholarly answers!
