1) See Phuket Fantasea, it's a spectacular show!
2) Take a boat to nearby islands to snorkel in clear waters; feed the fish from your hands; and have lunch on raft-restaurants in the sea
3) Bungy jumping, go-kart, para-sail, scuba dive, golf
4) Shop at Central Festival shopping mall

Hi Juicy.Couture
My wife and I have been living and working on Phuket in the diving and adventure tourism industry for the last 10 years. There are so many activities and attractions to enjoy here that your biggest problem will be that you will not be staying long enough to try everything.
Keep in mind that Phuket is a big place (570 square kilometers) and if you are here only for a short time then good and accurate recommendations who depend a lot on where you will be staying on the island.
For a good idea of things to enjoy including dining, shoping and lots of activities you could take a look at some of the pictures in these on-line photo sharing links that other travelers from the "Tripadviser" forums.

If you have most of a day to kill, I would recommend the John Gray sea canoes. I think it cost around $80 US per person for a lunch and dinner on a boat. You will see the beautiful limestone islands and caves. You will get off the boat and get in canoes to go exploring in caves on the islands. Some caves are so low that you will have to lie down in the canoe just to get through. Some of them open up into a lagoon inside the island. Each canoe will have a guide to assist and tell you about everything. It was excellent.
I used PhuketRichard as a travel advisor and he put me on this. Contact him for more details. He is the pro on Phuket entertainment.

Avoid Phuket! Go to Mae Hong Song instead for a truly Thai experience. Phuket and all of the islands are tourist Disneyland -- ugly and crass, with loud drunk Western louts everywhere.

I'd highly recommend you and your family DON'T go to Phuket. You see A LOT of obvious prostitution in that place. Go to Phattaya instead - it's very pretty there. Nicer beaches too.

Oh yeah, word of advice, don't consume the ice while in Thailand (or abroad for that matter), or straight water (bottled/purified/boiled is ok). Trust me on that.

I would recommend that you get a copy of Insight Pocket Guide - Phuket, its comes with a free map and got lots of really good itinerary planned out for you, costs around S$20 but I used it to really good effect.

i stayed at patong in phuket.n it has the most vibrant night life in phuket...there are lotsa god beach resorts to choose from depending on ur budget..i can suggest baan lamai in patong as an affordable yet luxurios beah hotel..if ur lil sister is with u,the beach can be great for water sports, sun bathing, thai massages etc...at night, patong gets a new lease of life and once u explore the place u will be spoilt for choice..u can have fun shopping for lil beachy skirts, swimsuits, sarongs, hats, slippers and lotsa cute accessories for ur holiday as well as traditional thai stuff to take back home....beware of fake stuff..bargain well..the thais expect u to bargain..but still think bangkok is cheaper ..so u can purchase all u need from bangkok..but patong shops sell lovely bead stuffs, anklets and im sure u will end up purchasing such stuff...the food is simply great..stick to lobsters, squids, prawn and othr seafood to pamper ur tastebuds...u should visit phi phi island and cruise there and try snorkelling too...ask ur hotel or a thai tour operator for details...u could try staying at phi phi for a day or juz spend the afternoon...other beaches in phuket like kata, karon are quiet and serene..u take ur pick..but i suggest patong if u like a vibrant, cheerful atmosphere......
u can try more exotic locales like koh samui...i think u should visit the thai tourism website and decice for urself,..ive been to both pattaya and phuket several times and i prefer phuket...pattaya has lost its charm..the prostitution prob is everywhere in thailand and drunk tourists flood all parts of thailand..juz make sure u r in a nice hotel with sober crowd and in a central location or near the beach..

Whatever u do, Do NOT go for the FANTASEA show. Its meant for the family but its an enormous rip off. The beach is the biggest attraction along with its night life. People are friendly too.
