Prisons seems to make it difficult to return to being a citizen.

Prisons seem to allow "socializing" which has spilled over into the community and is corrupting all of our youth today. Profanity, Prostitution, Molestation, Rape and Pornography all are fed by criminal needs.

Can't we determine how much land a prisoner needs to grow food and build a shelter and leave him there alone until he demonstrates he can read, write and perform arithmetic at GED levels? No TV, computers just books and (psychologically beneficial) screened movies. No contact except video with any human beings. Eliminate sentencing and use milestones based on the crime.

Separate prisons for inmates which are NOT getting out and facilities in the deep ocean or out in space on monitored but otherwise uninhabited moons or asteroids.

We should eliminate any system which makes it impossible to recover an inmate.

My husband spent 14 years in prison then he met me. I have been his rehabilitation. He would of still committed crimes when he got out if it wasnt for me. But I limit my associtation with people of the criminal world, I gave him an option. I can give him a real life with a real family.
Prison gives them everything but rehab and I encourage anyone that has a better affordable Idea of prison that will encourage those men and women to change their lives more power to them. They do not get rehab in prison, they make friends they talk about getting out and partying. They look at porn. They watch movies that encourage violence and hatred. They need to focus more on family, the family you have hurt. They need to focus more on morals. They need to hire people that will not bring drugs in to the inmates. They just need education.
Knowledge is power.

I agree with you, but the current philosphy of rehabilitation is applied like a giant blanket to all inmates. The first step to developing a workable program is admitting that a large percentage of people in prison are life-long criminals, no matter how you treat them in prison. We should focus on the redeemable and make sure they get what they need to integrate back into society. We waste a lot of time and money "rehabilitating" hardcore rapists and pedophiles. It's just not going to happen.

And prison should never, ever be an enjoyable place. It should be hell, and famous for it. If it was everyone's worst nightmare, many people wouldn't commit a crime in the first place. And those who still do are more likely to be the people who absolutely need to be removed from society. There are many people, and I know a few, for whom life in prison is more enjoyable and comfortable than the life they had "outside".

I agree...you have some good ideas for a re-habilitation facility. Why don't you start one with like maybe five prisoners at a time. I never thought about it this way. I'm sure the gov will thank you for it. If not, then the citizens will. Go privately funded. Good insight!

Try it out, then invite the rehabilitated to live in your neighborhood, all of them. Then get back to us about how successful this idea is.
