I need an answer by July 9th. I was radar'd by an officer travelling down the highway the opposite direction. I was nearly arrested and as such did not put up much of a stink about the speeding violation. I would be happy with just having the actual ticket reduced from a criminal offense to a civil one. I have to go down to court on Monday so I need an answer by then. Thanks for all your help.

It would be a good idea to try to plea not-guilty with the hopes that the prosecution will offer you a plea bargain.

With a plea bargain they might reduce it to speeding of 85 mph or less; which will reduce the fine and the points on your license.
However, your past driving record and criminal record (if any) will be a factor to decide if you will "get a break" or not.

If you have an otherwise clean record it is a reasonable expectation. It would also help if you can pay the fine all at once. You might even suggest a plea if the prosecution does not offer you one.

Good luck...........and slow down.

Ok first off if you ever get pulled over again, ASK to see the radar. If you ask they must show you, so therefore you will have proof of such a thing. Also, good luck getting the ticket lowered. You may have to beg and plead your way out of it. An idea would be to offer to go to a course about speeding (yeah boring I know but it's better compared to a few days in a cell) even say you are willing to do community service. Address everyone with respect. Say sir, ma'am, thank you, please, etc etc. You have got to be nice and show respect. If you don't your hindend ain't going no where. Also they are going to ask you why you were going so fast. STATE THE TRUTH. They will probably already have a darn good idea why, so you best just tell them the real reason. Apologize and mean it.

Basically if you do those things you might get it lowered. You may even at the end say can we talk about this? If you have a good feeling that the judge isn't ready to nail you, then you might have a chance. Just do what I told you above and maybe you'll gain some respect with the judge, and always call the judge your honor. Don't go HEY JUDGE!! Bad idea.

But you did go 104, that's pretty freakin fast. So you're either looking at jail time or you will be going to classes. And I can pretty much bet your license is going byebye.

You need to call the courthouse and talk to the traffic division clerk. Ask them for the names of the attorneys who are frequently before those judges. Then call one of those attorneys. You MUST have an attorney if you don't want to be spending time in jail.

You might ask ThyLawyer --- a person on yahoo answers---if he can check the directory for wherever you are for a criminal lawyer's name.

Good luck.

If you'd said you were doing 74 or even 80, I would've had some great ideas. But 104?

I hope you get to keep your license. Hope you have a good lawyer!

Get a lawyer.

That's what they're there for.

An attorney will be able to help you out MUCH more than a bunch of yahoos can.
