Their reasons for thinking it's the true word of god aren't that much different from why Christians think the bible is the true word of god. They have faith that it is true then seek ways of proving their faith right. A Muslim man told me that the Koran is still the same language and translation of the original and that's why it's not distorted. There are also quite a few Muslims who will argue that the Koran is scientifically accurate and talked of things we know now before science found out...that's debatable. PBUH is a show of respect, they will also add it after Jesus.

Simply because Koran is the true word of God and has never been distorted
Koran wasn't written by Muhammed's supporters.. well not from their heads.. God sent Gabriel with the koran.. muhammed told ppl.. ppl wrote it down so as not to forget it.. some memorized it all ...
Yes, Koran has a lot of prophecies that have come true..
PBUH is Peace Be Upon Him .. how is that a bad thing ??

Well to answer your question with regards to PBUH(Salallahu Alayhi wa Salaam), it is more or less done out of respect. It is also said that one risks losing the intercession of a prophet on the day of Judgement if it is omitted.
As for the Quran as the word of God: The Quran does contain remarkable scientific insights where the bible only provides contradictions to science. There is more prophecy to be found in Hadith though.

Yes, the original version of the Holy Qur'an exists. It was actually written on leaves, leather, and other available materials and was compiled together during Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) life time by his cousin Imam Ali ibn Abu Taleb (AS). Yes there are millions of prophesies, one of the fall of Babylon (also in the Bible) which was brought down by Muslims. Prophet's aren't here to live in peace, they are to teach and struggle for truth. There is also a prophesy in the Bible that has come true in genesis ~And from the seed of Ishmael, a great nation will I create and 12 righteous descendants will I give. This was Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his 12 righteous descendants.

The best way to find these things out is to read the literature yourself. Get a copy of the Quran in English, sit down and read it. If you need help understanding what's being said get an annotated version of the translation.
If you've never read the Bible before do the same. Read it. Think it out for yourself rather than listening to a bunch of people with preconceived notions who are more interested in convincing you of their beliefs rather than informing you.

Prophecies: only 2 examples--
(1)The Quran contains prophecies of future events, many of which have come to pass. We reproduce here a discussion of one such prophecy, which was fulfilled within the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam.
While the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, was still in Makkah, after having been entrusted with prophethood, and was being subjected to all sorts of persecutions by the Makkan idolaters, exactly at the same time the two great powers of Rome and Persia were involved in repeated wars. The Romans were beaten, vanquished and suffered a great loss in men and material. At last, the Romans were so utterly exhausted that, far from being in a position to launch a counter-attack, they could not even take a firm stand anywhere. This situation was a matter of jubilation for the pagans of Arabia, as they identified the Persians, being fire-worshippers, with themselves and the Romans, as “people of the Book,” with the Muslims. In their eyes, the dominance of the Persians, presaged their own victory and the defeat of the Muslims. It was under these circumstances that these initial verses of the chapter called ar-Rûm (“The Romans”) were revealed (which means):
“…The Romans have been defeated, in the land close by. And after (this) defeat of theirs, they will soon be victorious within a few years. To Allaah belongs the command before and after and on that day the Believers will rejoice in Allaah’s help…” [Quran 30:2-4]
For those who were aware of the military situation concerning the Romans and Persians, this prediction was absolutely incredible. In fact, the Persians kept marching forward until they reached the city walls of the Roman capital, Constantinople. The renowned historian Edward Gibbon has commented on this prediction thus:
“When this prophecy was made, no prediction could be more unbelievable because the initial twelve years of Heraclius were evidently declaring an end to the Roman Empire.” [Fall of the Roman Empire, v.5, p.73-74]
But exactly seven years after his first defeat, the Roman emperor sallied forth from the capital and inflicted crushing defeats on the Persians at several places, and after that the Roman armies were victorious everywhere.
Meanwhile, a large number of Muslims had migrated to Madeenah and their wars with the idolaters of Makkah had already begun. The day on which 313 ill-equipped Muslims were decisively beating their enemy -- 1000 heavily armed Makkan warriors -- at battlefield of Badr, came the news that the Romans had defeated the Persians. It was then realized that the Quranic verse, (which means): “…on that day the Believers will rejoice in Allaah’s help” [Quran 30: 4-5] was meant to denote the twin happiness of the Romans’ victory as well as their own victory at Badr.
(2)
The Prophet had an uncle by the name of Abu Lahab. He was the staunchest opponent of the Prophet. Whenever the Prophet spoke to any stranger, he used to follow the Prophet, the moment the Prophet departed he used to go to the stranger and ask what did the Prophet tell you. Did he say it is day, it is night. Did he say it is black, it is white. He spoke exactly the opposite of what the Prophet said. And there is a full chapter Surah Lahab, Ch. No. 111, of the Qur’an which was revealed and it says that Abu Lahab and his wife, they will perish in hell. And it says indirectly that people will never except Islam. They will never become Muslims. This Surah was revealed 10 years before the death of Abu Lahab. In that span of time, many of his friends who were also opponents of Islam embraced Islam. But Abu Lahab did not embrace Islam. Since he used to lie always against the prophet the only thing he had to do to prove the Qur’an wrong was to say I am a Muslim. He did not have to behave like a Muslim. He did not have to act like a Muslim. He only had to say I am a Muslim and the Qur’an would have been proved wrong. It was so easy for him to prove the Qur’an wrong. Since he had lied before, he just had to say an additional lie. It is as though the prophet is telling him. You think I am your enemy, come on say this say I am a Muslim and I will be proved wrong. It was so easy. But he did not say it. It is proved that no human being can make such a statement in his book. It has to be a divine revelation. Another such example is in Surah Al-Baqarah, Ch. No. 2, Verse No. 94 and 95, which says that they say that the last home of Allah is with them alone. It is meant for them alone and no one else and the Qur’an continues. Tell them that if the last home for Allah is for them alone tell them to seek for death. They will never seek for death because of the sins they have committed. This was revealed during a discussion during a confrontation between the Jews and the Muslims and the Jews said that the last home of Allah that is the paradise is for the Jews alone and not for anyone else. So a verse was revealed saying that if you think that paradise is specially meant only for the Jews you call for death, seek for death. The only thing the Jews had to do at that time anyone of them any one of those Jews a single person would have come out and said I seek for death. I want to die not that he had to die not that he had to act only thing he had to do was seek for death. Say I want to die and the Qur’an would have been proved wrong. It has so easy to prove the Qur’an wrong but none of the Jews came forward and said that I seek for death. It is a falsification test. But now you may tell me, that all these tests are of the past how can we prove the Qur’an wrong today if you want to prove it wrong Qur’an has tests, falsification tests which are also meant for all times. For that time and for today and till eternity, the Qur’an mentions that many people claimed and said that the Qur’an is false. The Qur’an tells them it is mentioned in Surah Isra, Ch. No. 17, Verse No. 88, that say if all the humankind and jinn’s were to gather together to produce the like of the Qur’an they will bot be able to do it even if they helped each other. It is a challenge that if all the humankind and jinn’s gathered to produce the like of the Qur’an, they will not be able to do it even if they helped each other.
