Technically, no, as long as you don't curse. If foul language is involved and there is another civilian within ear shot you could be arrested for disturbing the peace (in some jurisdictions). Of course, it is never a wise idea as the officer does have considerable discretion. He could nail you for any other number of things if this happens during a traffic stop. From a burned out tail light to a crack in the windshield, odds are he'll be able to find something wrong. Even if you are just walking down the street, be careful. Police officers have good memories and your face will be remembered. Don't expect any slack the next time you are driving five miles an hour over the speed limit.

No it is not punishable however, the police officer may decide that you were maybe speeding or you ran a stop sign when in reality you did but, give you a ticket anyway. Depending upon your attitude you could end up getting arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer. Be very careful!

You did not say the case, a traffic stop, or the such.
In a traffic stop I can find at least 3 things on anyones car to write a ticket for almost always.
And he can always go with disturbing the peace, hold you in the back of the car while he checks your identy or take you back to the station as a possible suspect and so on.
They have ways to seperate you from your friends and witness and mess with you in ways they sit around and dream of on thier days off just for some wise as......

a peace officer is a form of government. just like you can talk smack to a president , you can also talk smack to a peace officer. the way to get around that is if your a peace officer ask anyone if they were offended if they were now you have a case.
a peace officer "form of governement" cannot be offended. but a civilian can. " usaully disorderly conduct citation." if foul language was used.

Technically, no...but it depends if you do it in such a manner that he/she feels "threatened" by you...in which case, you're in a heap of trouble.
It's best just to make some comment about pork or bacon products under your breath and walk away.

That's what alot of cops call "failing the attitude test" and could get you a ticket when you weren't going to get one originally.
But just insulting, per se, I don't think is against the law, just against the laws of common sense.
