No. Pollution is very unlikely to get that bad. Think of it this way. As pollution gets worse and worse it causes more and more health problems and so more and more people will die. As the death rate rises the population of the Earth will start to drop. As the population drops the amount of pollution will start to fall and then health problems will not be so bad and fewer people will die. Eventually the population of the Earth will stabilize around a sustainable population level and it will never be necessary to leave the Earth. It should be obvious that this will not be a fun process though.
It would be much smarter of us to use science to study the Earth and figure out what the sustainable population is. Also it would be smart to try to reduce pollution as much as possible and to avoid other stupid things like over heating our atmosphere by filling it with greenhouse gasses. I am hoping we do this the easy way, but even if we do it the hard way we will eventually reach a sustainable population and economy.

From what I have studied from having been an environmental studies major for a while and from what I believe is yes, it can happen. Humans really need to start taking better care of the planet. It can only take so much before it can no longer take care of itself. We live on an amazing thing, but it's not going to be able to handle the abuse of humans forever.

you have to see that life on earth is here because, we are the right distance from the sun, we have the moon to keep us stable, that we are protected from radiation, we have a magnetic core so we a magnetic field to keep the solar winds from blowing the atmosphere away, ect, ect, ect, if God was able make everything, he could make everything safe for every living thing on any planet, anywhere, you have to ask youself, what did God really do, maybe you need to look deeper inside, what is pollution anyway, maybe to many people on earth is pollution, it's all realtive

The earth, at its very most polluted, will still be way more hospitable to us than the moon or any other planet in our solar system.
We will live on other planets because we want to, even though it is way way way harder to live there than the earth at any imagineable level of pollution.

The problem with the pollution is it mostly political. This means the government can give lots of people money to solve the problem and then these people will support their re-election campaigns to get more money. Then they pass new laws to require the expensive equipment to fix pollution it is an expensive cycle. We should exercise good stewardship over our territory and keep it clean. I think you are responding fearfully to the fear mongers who need more free tax money

The earth has it's own method of population control... it's called microbes. All it takes is one nasty virus or environmental catastrophe , which happens frequently throughout the history of our planet, and the population problem is solved.

Near future? No.
Actually technology to deal with pollution is getting better every year. The main threat is countries like China and India who don't feel the need to treat their industrial waste like USA and UK do.
