The Bible is a book of laws written by humans. How do we know this is what God would do? Nobody really knows the answer to that question. If stoning happened today, perhaps mankind would still be stoning fornicators -- or perhaps even burning "witches" at the stake! Why not look at the Bible in a more broadened way? If you look at the big picture, the Bible is trying to tell us that there are certain behaviors which are socially unacceptable. In those times, that action was socially unacceptable. If we chose to lead lives which are not rife with greed and excessive behavior, I think we'll be okay. Don't you?

Because the junkies won't let them near the drugs. The truth is, that things have changed now. Many of the old testament laws no longer apply today. The bible says that this is man's day. The day when man can say and do as he pleases before God and seem to get away with it. However, the day is coming when it will be the lord's day. When the lord will be in charge. Then there will be a Resurrection of the just and unjust, and how do you think the fornicators are going to feel then?

I'm often stoned when I fornicate. How FUN! But then I do tend to get the munchies later x2! :P

Oh, and by the by dumb american, put together the likelihood that the bible has been so mistranslated over the centuries along with the early male religious leaders who manipulated the word of God and the bible to suit their own patriarchal agenda to suppress the role of women in society and control the masses with fear, you get a book that is hardly trustworthy today.

I do not believe that the commonly used translations of the bible contain the true word of God as intended.

First of all, a lot of fornicators are stoned, even though it's techically illegal to be in possession. But then a lot aren't.

Then you have a curious question about "Why doesn't no one have Christian values anymore?" I can't work out if that's a double negative or not, so I think I'll let that one go.

Well, you can't stone the entire cast of Cats! :)

Actually, fornication isn't illicit sex, as the current culture would have you believe; it's the act of degrading marriage. So...showing off nude women (tempting husbands), sleeping with married women, trying to get homosexual marriage passed....all this is fornication.

After I got saved, I couldn't talk to God for two weeks; I was just STUNNED at how much anti-Christian temptation and degredation there is. Everything from HBO, to the newspapers, books, everything.

It's tough to fight through the temptations and go with what's right, but we must.

(And the killing of witches, the stoning of fornicators, and the stoning of false prophets stopped with Christ's death, and new covenant.) Before Christ, to be saved, you had to be like an ultra-Amish person, with tons of detailed rules. Be thankful for Christ; most of us wouldn't make it.

Just because people don't do exactly what it says in the Bible doesn't mean that they have no Christian values. You can't possibly be that narrow minded-can you?

That having been established, let's realize that the Bible was written thousands of years ago and pertained to the societies and cultures of those times. A lot of what is in the Bible is not relevant, pertinent or even practical in today's society. Most of the turmoil and strife taking place in the Middle East today is a direct result of religious extremists and fundamentalists who have no room in the practice of their religion for adaptation and evolution.

Besides that, I don't think that I personally need to burn goats to prove my faith in God. But if that's your thang, peace be with you!

Stoning was a practice that was introduced in the Law of Moses for a punishment to those who broke certain commandments regarding the law. When Jesus came he fullfilled the law and instituted the gospel. The law was done away with, those who break the commandments may not be stoned today, however they will still have punishment wrought upon them if they remain unrepentant.

Stoning was a punishment common in the ancient Jerusalem and Arabia region. It is still carried out by some 'Islamic' countries.

I don't think that stoning for such a 'crime' is right, because, if you believe in God and the Day of Judgement, then you surely believe that the 'criminal' will be punished by God.

Anyway, your question is like asking, "Why aren't criminals sent to Botany Bay any more?", "Why aren't criminals hanged at Tyburn any more?", or "Why aren't witches thrown off London Bridge any more?"

Our various cultures have mostly evolved since ancient times.

You can absolutely stone and be a good Christian, you just have to wait for the person who is without sin to throw the first stone. Jesus never said don't throw the stones

Regarding the second part of the question. (As the first has been comprehensively dealt with.)

Define 'Christian values.'

I am reasonably well read on the subject and I understand that the core of Christian values is love and forgiveness born out of true self knowledge and genuine humility.
"All have fallen short..."
Or to put it another way:
We are ALL in the same boat.
If you don't believe that, you may find yourself in the WRONG boat.
