How can we stop slaughtering homeless horses and euthanizing homeless cats and dogs?

Educate people (especially young kids in school!) not to breed them and abandon them in the first place. If a dog is trained properly as a pup, he's much less likely to be dumped at a shelter.

Don't you see how many people on this site alone are asking how many days a female is pregnant? They don't even know the basics and they are calling themselves "breeders."

Write to your legislators and get them to BAN puppy mills and make it illegal to sell puppies and kittens in stores. This is the source of most of the unwanted dogs in the US. They lie to the customers all the time. The goal of a salesman at a pet store is to get your money - not to sell you the right dog for your family. I have overheard them say that an Old English Sheepdog pup wouldn't get too big and wouldn't need any grooming. Jack Russell Terriers are sold everyday as "perfect family dogs" - they conveniently forget to tell you that they're hard to train and very hyper! A good breeder will spend more time telling you why you SHOULDN'T own his puppies than trying to get you to buy one.

All I can do is give an opinion on this question. The killing of innocent animals will never stop unless people are made to take the responsibility of spaying or neutering their own pets. I had a neighbor once that brought home 4 cats because they saw a mouse in their house. They did not have them spayed and neutered and did not let them stay in the house. A couple of the cats had been killed by cars and I know 2 of them were pregnant. I don't know what ever happened because all of a sudden we didn't see them wandering around anymore. I think that people need to be educated and screened before adopting or purchasing a pet.
As far as horses are concerned: People are keeping females pregnant for their urine to make money making drugs for menopausal human females. What are they doing with all of the babies? Some things are better left alone. We don't need those drugs. My grandmother lived to be 99 WITHOUT all of these new things our government and scientists have come up with.

Quit breeding your pets, And spay or neuter them. There is to much breeding of purebred animals and non purebred animals. If people wouldn't let their unaltered cats and dogs roam the streets. That would help with some of the problems right there. And maybe some of you that think slaughtering horses is a good thing then maybe you should visit a web site where you can see what actually happens to them when they are sent to slaughter. It is a sad and disgusting thing. At least homeless cats and dogs are put down humanely. Horses are not. Congress is voting on making the slaughter of horses illegal in the United States, and I hope it passes.

Well there are a lot of problems with that country, and a huge feral/homeless animal population doesn't go anywhere near the peak. As with about 99.99% (if not 125%) of countries around the world, they have this major parasite called a corrupt government. Scientists and common people around the globe are currently working on a pesticide for such vermin, but there are many hurdles in the way. $$$$ being a big one. I wish there was something we could do, but even here in the U.S where there are many animal lovers and people who make at least a decent living, we still have a major problem with overpopulation.

We cant we need to control the population of the animals first. cause all of the backyard breeders are just breeding animals for money and the more that are going out the more we needto control the population, thats why there are over 5.8 mill. stray animals in america.

Get people to spay/neuter their pets & for horses, they should have a humane society for them as well. I know some take horses but not all.

well i kno its a serious matter because i think cruelty to animals is so wrong but u should research any organizations that can help u. and make a petition. take it to they highest branch in ur city or watever n let them know that u take this matter very seriously and that u want it to stop

WHY??? Horses are meat,just like cattle & sheep & chickens,etc.& there are GAZZILLIONS of un-wanted & UN-ADOPTABLE cats & dogs. *YOU* gonna house & feed & care for em FOR-BLOODY-EVER??
