You don't have to, as long as the vehicle's gonna be non-op, and you have to register it that way. At least that's how it is in California.

Insurance is required for vehicles you intend to drive. If you intend to keep the other vehicle parked on private property then you will not need insurance. If you want to leave it on the street then it will require plates, registration and insurance.

here in new york (at least where i live) you must carry insurance and registration on both vehicles unless you keep the vehicle in a garage. even if you are working on a vehicle outside of a garage, if you don't have plates on it you can get ticketed. by the way, if you cancel insurance on a vehicle, turn in plates immediately, or you can face a fine of $8.00/day of non-insurance on vehicle until plates are turned in. i did this once and waited 3 months to turn the plates in. it wasn't cheap

Well, it depends on the state, here in Ohio, it must be tagged....as for the insurance it might depend on where the car is stored, if it is in a garage, perhaps your home-owners policy will cover it if it is damaged..maybe, I would check with your local department of motor vehicles

Technically no but in some casses you'd want it. It depends on its value (The vehicle). Otherwise get a non-op from the motor vehicle dept.and you can just cover the car for a minimum amount! Or not at all..Oh yea you can't drive it ...anywhere!!

most states require that you have liability insurance on any vehicle that is registered and has plates. if you are not going to drive the vehicle then you dont need tags. no tags, no need for insurance. but why have a car you dont plan on driving??????????dont get caught taking that quick trip to the store with no tags&insurance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOUR NOT GOING TO USE IT SELL IT AND BANK THE CASH!!

no it is not necessary to have insurance and tags on both but the one you drive you should however to save you time and trouble and money you may want to keep the tags updated unless you plan to sell it in the future [no] you might want to consider if one car fails you have another to fall back on

It depends on the state. Some states say that if you are not driving one, turn in the plates and you don't have to insure it.

No you don't have too , but if something happen to the car you would have to pay for it. Different states different rules I'm sure. And some places you rent demand your car is fully legal to park in your yard.
