If you buy perch, walleye or a few other fish at the market they might be from Lake Michigan.
If you catch them most bait shops will clean and fillet them for you.
They charge by the pound for small fish or so much each for larger ones.
If you do this yourself remove the skin and fat along the belly because if there are any pollutants that is where they will be.

There are five Great Lakes in the Michigan area.

Of those lakes, Lake Superior and Michigan are the cleanest because they are farthest 'upstream'. Lake Erie is one of the worst, being near Detroit and Ohio.

I would not have a problem eating fish or swimming anywhere in Lake Michigan. If you have never been to the Great Lakes, you will be impressed with their size.
