I was recently browsing the Clavicular Salomonis (Key of Solomon the King) and the Lemegeton Clavicular Salomonis (Lesser Key of Solomon the King) and although these are pagan spells and rituals, involving invoking demons etc. they all praise the Christian God in their content and rituals - they seem to be Christian demon summonings! Can anyone briefly explain to me the history of the book, or why it appears to have two completely contrasting principles included? Thanks!
p.s. i'm not stupid, but i'm also only 16, so simple words would be appreciated - I don't mind complicated answers, since I know this is likely to be a complex topic, but responses that don't require a dictionary to be read would be useful... just a request!

I was brought up in a Pagan household - these things are on my family bookshelves! I am Christian (i'm LDS) but I will never stop learning about other faiths, and as far as I am concerned, Paganism is just as valid a topic for a theologian as any other, such as Islam, Christianity, Judaism etc which are considered 'suitable' religions to study. Why shouldn't I ask questions? Is there something that needs to be kept hidden?

These are indeed ancient hebrew spells, rooted in hebrew mysticism. Solomon (wise king of Isreal, son of David) supposedly used the magic formulae laid down in the Clavicles to gain power over Demons. For example, he is reputed to have cast a spell to put the Demon Asmodeus into submission and make him build the Temple of Solomon.
Simon the Magician -the first great heretic - is said to have used the Clavicles to spectacular effect before being cursed by Peter the apostle and the excorcist, Eleazar, is reputed to have chased away demons using 'A root such as mentioned by Solomon' in the time of the emporor Vespasian.
If you are reading the Clavicles, you probably have more idea than me or anyone on here about it's origins, but I can recommend further reading which will explain the story of Solomon and the formulae in the Clavicles in greater detail....
Two volumes: 'veritable grimoire' and 'secrets des secrets'.
I hope this has been of some use to you. Happy hunting.

I'm not so sure those are Pagan spells... Christian Mystics did this sort of thing "Back in the day". I'm not sure about the history of the book but I do know that certain Christian sects, especially during the middle ages, did these sort of things trying to find knowledge.
As for sticking with the "Oldest" book... there are many writings more ancient than the Bible... so I would suggest to the person who said that, insinuating that you should stick to the Bible, should do a little research of their own.

He is well known for his wisdom. The first and most famous incident of his cleverness as a judge was when two women came to his court with a baby whom both women claimed as their own. Solomon threatened to split the baby in half. One woman was prepared to accept the decision, but the other begged the King to give the live baby to the other woman. Solomen then knew the second woman was the mother. Near the end of his life, he allowed "outsiders" to practice their pagan religions. The result was that Jerusalem, and even its holy Temple, was the scene of pagn practices and idol worship (I Kings 11:1-13). Also in one story it is claimed that the demon Sakhr deceived one of Solomon's sisters into giving him the ring. Sakhr then ruled in his stead for forty days (or years, in some versions) while Solomon wandered the country in poverty. However eventually Sakhr threw the ring into the sea, where it was swallowed by a fish, caught by a fisherman, and served to Solomon. Ecclesiastes 9:12 may be a reference to the sudden change from king to pauper. As well as The Story of King Solomon's Mine. Is it a myth or did it really exist? The legend of King Solomon's mine is based in part on the wealth of his kingdom, foretell of a great treasure of gold and wealth hidden in a mine deep in the jungles of Africa. What's your opinions about this?

You are treading down a dangerous path. But even the wise cannot know all ends. Remember to bring a light with you if you find yourself walking in the dark.
Be cautious, but don't stop your desire for knowledge. These books you are reading sound very interesting but I believe they are falsely, maybe ignorantly, assuming that God would approve of the summoning of Demons. Study the Bible and read about Jesus, you will see the truth. He is your light.
In my humble opinion, these books you read are a key, too be sure. But the key is for allowing a demon to take possession of a human body, that body: the one you own now!
May Jesus reside in you, take care.

I have never heard of these books either but allow me to give you an illustration which will help you understand the devil's intention with such books.
Imagine you have a rifle your goal is to shoot the target and get a bulls-eye. Along comes Satan in one of his many guise he kindly puts his arm around you and says he will help you shoot. As he whispers lies in your ear you won't see his finger gently push on the end of the barrel. Then he will tell you to pull the trigger. Not only has he succeeded in causing you to miss the bulls-eye but you have missed the target as well may be only by an inch but when the target was eternity with the Father. An inch is good as a mile.

Could a God that is all knowing deliver his/her message to different people in different ways?
Could this same God create many different religions to convey the same message?
No, I haven't red that book. However I'm going to.
I hope this helps.

Solomon´s end was one of madness. He spoke in jibjerish and no one heeded his calling until his death. Sad end for someone who thought it was okay to walk with one foot on the path of righteousness and one in sin. And all because he heeded the invitations of his foreign wife who had nothing to do with our God all powerful creator of the Heavens and Earth. He did what he should not. when he summoned Samuel, He was rebuked. But where your heart is so is your treasure. I personally would not say it be a good thing to summon a demon. Moreover being that they are beings who God chose never to give forgiveness. Yet by the grace of GOd, I know a man greater than Solomon. Sent by Christ Jesus as an Apostle to bring the TRUTH of Salvation to the earth in these later days. THere are many who profess Christianity by many teachings. But Even Paul taught thathe had all teachings as rubbish in compare to what he had received through the revelation of Christ Jesus in the mission for which he was sent to be Light unto the Gentiles and Salvation to the ends of the earth. I cordially invite you to the Church the Light of the World La Luz del Mundo closest to you. It is the most precious doctrine I have ever heard and when I accepted this TRUE CHRISTIAN TEACHING, to which there is no other comparable , I must say, that all the teaching I received as a Child, it too has become as rubbish. I always believed in Jesus Christ, But what i Learned was more theory than practical if you can understand what I am saying. I mean we can study to be a doctor or a nurse or many other things, but to receive INSTRUCTION to be DISCIPLINED this is TRUE KNOWLEDGE: I love history. I am always looking to find a better answer but in as much as the Church of the Living God, Column and Support of the Truth The Light of the WOrld, I have not found anything Greater, nor a Better teacher than the Apostle Samuel Joaquin FLores upon the face of the earth, there is no one like him. He is an Apostle not of men nor By men, but by Christ Jesus who has sent him and chosen him to complete the mission of bringing the souls to salvation. My facebook link is Rachel Carlson Gray.....https://www.facebook.com/rachel.carlsongray You are more than welcome to visit my page and I will be more than happy to give you more info on this blessed Doctrine taught by an Authentic apostle of Jesus Christ in this later day. Although there are those who speak with evil hearts who seek to difame his honorable person, I am a personal witness to his blessed and saintly integrity. I know no other and He has showed me how to serve Jesus Christ and to have power over Satan. And I know that only day, he will be who turn me over to Christ Jesus Himself. God Bless You all and may His peace and Grace overflow within your hearts.

The LDS people that I have known are against reading about that kind of stuff. It can attract evil spirits to you.
