It wont change you, but you may change anyway. Air Force does not really treat their people good and training is not easy. But it may be better/easier treatment/training than the Army, lessay.
It's a weird, hard life of countless rules. Understand that a civilan's boss doesn't find out if he gets a speeding ticket. But if you so much as spit in the wrong place in the Air Force, your boss finds out, your pay may be impacted, your career put at risk. Everything...from how you well you clean your quarters, whether you pay your bills on time to who you associate with is inexorably linked to your career because it's discovered by your boss and 1st Sergeant. That's an added pressure (besides possibly dying in war) many people can't cope with and didn't expect.
You should also know that Uncle Sugar breaks promises that were made in the recruiter's office. If you want to go in to *serve* and you "feel the call" --- then you may do well. If you're going in for benefits, you will be disappointed. It's a sad fact.
If you'd like to make some changes in your personality, you'll find out also that the AF won't make that happen for you either. But still, you may learn some things that will change your point of view, then people may see some change in you.
Finally, please make every effort to avoid the aircraft maintenance career field. if you forget everything else i said, then just do this, OK? It's 12 hour days for you while the rest of the the AF is home sleeping or doing eights. The AF cops and the acft maint share the two highest suicide rates in the AF (source: AFOSI). For AF Cops, you know...if there's a little depression over a lost girlfriend, then that weopon is always right at their side for a quick death temptation, see? But acft maint troops kill themselves because the career field actually sucks that much...(think about it)
I hope you keep asking questions like this and do some easy online research. You can gather enough evidence and testimony to discover for yourself that I've been absolutely open and honest with you here, if only from my point of view.
Best wishes on your choice, good luck. I got through my 20 years by God's grace...recommend a strong God connection for anyone considering a demanding lifestyle such as this. Don't go it alone.

Yes that's the whole idea of bootcamp is to change you into what the military want's you too be. If this is the only reason your joining then there are better ways of doing it than signing your life away and possibly losing your life. The military sucks, promotions come slow(esspecially in the Air Force), you have to go where they say when they say and how they say, you have no true free will, you get paid jack s**t (most military members qualify for government assistance), Unless your E-5 or above you make less than 20,000 a year. After you get out there are numerous physical and mental issues you have to go thru (I personally was in and I am still having nightmares 2 years after I got out).
In other words......
GO TO COLLEGE INSTEAD AND SEE A SHRINK (about your shyness) YOU'LL BE BETTER OFF IN THE LONG RUN!!!!!!!!

You heard wrong. The Air Force does not treat you that well. Especially if you are quiet and shy. You'll be ridiculed because you cannot stand up for yourself.
Training is not that easy either. Well, its a little easier than other branches, but if you can't handle getting yelled at....don't join. You will get yelled and ridiculed in front of others. Can you handle that.
Probably not.

Basically, you'll stay the same. You may harden up temporarily to survive Basic; you may keep it for the sake of saving face with the guys at Tech School (but you'll probably see signs of reverting back to your old self sooner than you'd realize...)
By the time you get your Base assignment, you'll probably be the same you, just a bit more mature, not necessarily more outgoing.
So generally speaking, if you're looking for a full self-image change, you'll probably be disappointed, although you will learn to become somewhat more independent.

TO GENE FREQUENCY....KISS MY ***!
BASICALLY IF YOUR LOOKING TO OVER COME YOUR SHYNESS , WELL NO MILTARY CAN DO THAT FOR YOU, IT HAS TO COME FROM WITH IN . I TOO WAS A VERY SHY PERSON AND I MADE IT APPOINT NOT TO LET EVERYONE PASS MY BYE , I MADE IT KNOWN WHO I WAS AND WHERE I STAND! AS FOR THE AIR FORCE THING MY HUSBAND IS IN THE A FORCE. AND HE'S A SSGT. WHO IS NOW SERVING IN S.KOREA, HE WAS ALSO IN THE ARMY TOO! AND HE SAID THAT IF HE KNEW NOW WHAT HE KNEW THEN , HE WOULD HAVE GONE STRAIGHT INTO THE AIR FORCE INSTEAD OF THE ARMY.
THE A. F. HAS DIFFERENT RULES AND OBLIGATIONS THAT GO WITH WHAT CAREER FIELD YOU CHOOSE

Don't go into the air force, the basic training isn't as good as the Army. So if you need good discipline, try the Army or Marines, the country needs soldiers now, not more airman.
