Here's a few possibilities:
1) They are trying to tell you that you have a booger on your nose without actually saying it outright in which case you should thank them for not only alerting you of this adornment you have displayed on your face for all to see, but their kindness in actually telling you in the first place as opposed to letting you don the crusty jewel for the remainder of the day and not know it.
2) They are asking you for an illegal narcotic due to your 'I'm a dealer' appearance and are just waiting for you to produce this automatic ticket to the slammer because they are an undercover DEA agent looking for the lowlife that is selling those things to our future at your local playgrounds.
3) They are asking you to join them in their die young, broke, and in prison, habit as you casually talk about the unfairness of law enforcement and their behavior towards them and their associates.
4) They have a minor case of OCD and are compelled to touch their nose every time they hear the words, "Is that right?" which is more suitable than their reaction to hearing the words, "Where has your head been?"
5) They're telling you that your response to the question is correct as in charades or that you are brilliant and should work for NASA being the oh so clever genius that you are.
Hope these shed a little light on this enigma these clandestine cult members, sitting around in dimly lit, smoke filled rooms, are employing to identify one another with.

RE:
What does it mean when someone taps/touches their nose as a gesture?
I have seen it in movies and I've even seen people do that. It's kind of hard to explain but they touch their nose almost like if they're agreeing with something. What is that something? What does that mean?

Oddly enough, some people DO make that gesture when they are agreeing with something, but more often, people do that when they are thinking about something. I have no idea what the connection is between the nose and the brain, but it's quite common, mostly with older men, and especially with Europeans.
Watch a chess match and you'll see the old nose tap before almost every move as they plot out their strategy!

When I look at some people, they response to me by touching (quick rub) their noses.
This means to them I am at a lower standard and I smell bad (because of my colour, race).

On the side or on the front? The side (with the head shaking yes or no) means either the person/situation being discussed involves someone on coke or is "made"(member of the mafia).
If on the front, it means "bingo-you are right on the target."
I think that is what "Alive and Well " is trying to tell you, but he is a little more witty that I am. Sorry!

it means "you got it" or "right answer", like when you say "bingo.". i think it's originally from Charades, or something. i've seen people use it sarcastically, but it's not always a sarcastic gesture.

in Asia, instead of pointing to one's chest to indicate "me", they point to his / her nose
