Most rottweilers are GREAT family dogs. They are very tolerant of children, and rarely show aggression.

As long as your daughter doesn't chase the dog (adult Rottweiler males find that threatening, sometimes), all will be fine, especially since the rotty is still a puppy.

Rotts are typically good mannered dogs. If it is young enough and brought up in a home where there are young kids, they are usually fine. The puppy being a puppy doesn't realize that it is much bigger than the child so there will still need to be discipline on the dogs part as well teaching the child what not to do to the dog...such as pull on tails, ears, or get in the dog's face while he's eating. I wouldn't worry about it until you see some abnormal behavior (if you reach down to pat the dog's head while he's eating and he growls or snaps at you) then you should see about a behavioralist that can help with those types of problems. They are very protective of their people and property but I really wouldn't worry about the dog and the child together. Just let them both know what is expected of them toward eachother and you will be fine.

No young child should be left alone with any dogs.

Letting the child abuse the dog is a bad idea, although most dogs inherantly know a child is young and will not respond, you never know when any dog may go off.

I'd like to emphazise that this advice goes with ANY type of dog not just Rotties. In addition Rotties benifit from formal training, getting into a class would be a good idea.

Any dog no matter the breed or size can be good or bad. It's all in how you raise them. If you raise your dog properly you shouldn't have a problem. Rottweilers, pitbulls & such all have a bad reputation because there are people out there who get them & train them to be mean so that they can fight them or have a big mean dog. On the other hand they can be great famiy pets if given the chance. You need to socialize your dog with other animals, small children & such (supervised of course). You also need to teach your child to respect animals & not pull, bite, or hit them. Any dog can react to treatment such as this if the child accidentally hurts the animal.

all dogs have teeth and so they all can bite ! a rottie is a very smart dog and also an independent thinker. the way the breed as progressed in the last few years i would not trust that dog at all. it's not the dogs fault but all the back yard breeders who want a huge mean dog. with this breed a would check the blood lines very carefully and only buy the very best dog I could find. but like I said all dogs have teeth and all can bite.

I have read where parents have raised their kids with these dogs and they were wonderful, then one day, the rot mauled the baby. I would not have a dog like that around a baby, and it is not good to let the child hit and pull on the dog. No dog likes that and will eventually snap at the child. I know my Shih-tzu did and he is a toy breed. That age child does not need to be around any dog. Ma'am, If you do a search on yahoo/google, you will see all the children killed and mauled by these dogs. Please for your daughters sake, be extremely careful. I work with children in a church nursery and they are such precious little things. I don't want anything to happen to your daughter.

It all depends on how you raise the dog. The bad owners out there give different dog breeds bad names. Rottweliers make great pets. My uncle has one that is 150 pounds and was raised with their one daughter and he is great with her. I know another rotty that is about the same weight and layed out to play with a 8 week old, 10 pound puppy it had just meet. Rottys can make the best pet, it all depends on their environment.

Any animal can snap at any time. If the dog is raised with the child and the child is not allowed to abuse it, then they will be perfectly OK together. When dogs are aggressive, it is usually because they have been mistreated. You have nothing more to worry about with this animal than any other one.

Ii have A rottweiler and she was on the street for a year so she is a bit mean around food but if you raise them they will only bite someone who is trying to hurt their owner. They are great family pets and as I have said great gaurd dogs.

The safety of any dog, no matter WHAT breed it is, depends entirely on the training and upkeep of the animal. It is your responsability to make sure the dog is raised correctly, knows that IT is the dog and YOU are the master, and that you have NO tolerance for unbecoming behavior.
