To the adults, yes it would be rude because you should be present when a guest arrives at your home or some other place. Just like you I also lock myself up in my room when I have company, but I rather be in my room than hearing adult conversations which is not any of my business to be listening and its better to be rude than hearing.

Well, it's not exactly polite, but if it's someone you don't like then I guess it's OK. When I was younger, I would always go in my room and pretend I wasn't there, or go take a really long shower when my dad's family came over. It worked, too. They were always gone before I came out. It doesn't work so well when they come to eat, though.

I must assume that the company is not there to see you. If they are there to see you, you won't have this issue in the future because they will get the hint and stop coming over.

It's not polite but if they are visiting someone else and you did not invite them, it shouldn't matter to anyone that you are in your room during their visit.

First say hi to them and then lock yourself in a room.

It depends on the company. If its someone that gets on your nerves so bad that you want to hit them its better to stay in your room. I have done this before
