GSDs can take up to 8 months to have their ears stand. My last GSD didn't have them up until about 6-7 months.

And DO NOT crop the ears! GSD ears stand on their own! Also, people often tape them because they are in a hurry to have them stand... it's unnecessary.

Sometimes the dog's genetics make its ears floppy. Those dogs are called "friendly-tipped" dogs. This is a fault in show dogs, but it doesn't mean it's a mutant.

But there are ways to train his ears so they'll stand when he's an adult. Call a local breeder or contact a local German Shepard club in your area and ask. I think it involves putting a foam tube against his ear and taping it, but I'm not really sure so you'd better ask a real expert about that.

I would give it another month or so but if they don't start to stand straight by then it's possible that they won't ever stand up which is considered a fault in the dog by the AKC. These ears are called "friendly-tipped" dogs. This can be caused by the cartilage being damaged but can also be geneticly linked. You should consult a vet before you try taping or gluing the dogs' ears to get proper instructions.

Well many dogs like dobermans and shepherds don't always have ears that stand up. Breeders usually clip their ears or put wires in them to make them stand up, so your puppy is perfectly normal

Puppies ears are sometimes floppy until about 1 year, but your dog might just have floppy ears! I'm assuming you mean why are they not up like an adult German Sheppard?

why are they up or why are they down?

they're up because he's on alert. he hears something. they're down because otherwise that would be pretty exhausting.

and no, he's not being submissive.
