I plan on buying a Playstation 3 when it comes out and want to buy a high definition TV with it and I saw on Bestbuy's website that I can get a 20" flat panel HD-Ready TV for $400. So I am wondering what exactly HD-Ready means. Because it has the true HD resolution (1080p) and I just want to make sure that I can watch my DirecTV and play the PS3 in High Definition.

HD ready normally means it will display HD but it needs an HD tuner or other HD source to provide the HD quality images. It doesn't come with its own internal HD receiver or HD source. The PS3 is a source and your Direc TV can be a source of HD. (Your standard Def sources will show on the HD as well.)

If you were looking at the Toshiba 20" LCD HD-Ready TV with DVD player, it will display HD from a HD source.

The Sony Playstation 3 will have a HDMI output on the 60 GB model, for which the Toshiba has an input.

The Playstation 3 also has Composite, S-video and Component video outputs on all models. The Toshiba has all three inputs to accomodate the PS3.

So, it will work. You will only connect one of the possible outputs to the inputs and then you will need to select that input on the TV.

You may need to talk to your Direc TV provider to upgrade your service to HD. That may mean you get a different decoder box with different outputs. (and a new monthly rate to match!)

Since your Playstation will have all the different outputs, you should connect your Direc TV the way it will need to be connected and then choose an unused input for the PS3. Then you'll just have to select the input from the TV remote to change from viewing shows to playing the games.

HD stands for High Definition which is a definition of clarity on the screen. You can only view HD progams on an HD tv in that resolution.
HD-Ready does not mean it is has HD, you may need to hook up a HD box to view some programs in HD.

i have self belief a HD waiting television is able to show a HD image as long as you connect a HD source to the television, which contain a Sky plus HD field, or a Virgin Media V+ HD field. This sends a HD signal to the television and the television reflects it So an HD waiting television is able to show a 1080p image as long as u connect a HD source to it an finished HD television shows each and every image on the television at HD or on the excellent achieveable widespread it may, you may want to connect a classic freeview/sky or cable field to the television or merely an ariel and the television will show the picture in HD

Just an FYI, the 20" screen will not produce a 1080p signal, just a 1080i. There is a big difference.

"HD-Ready" generally means that it's a monitor capable of the high resolution -- but that it doesn't come with the an HD tuner.
