If you wear really dark lenses you will have essentially an experience of night vision when color is absent due to use of rod photoreceptors instead of cone photoreceptors. The perception of color is in the brain not in the outside world or even the eyes. If you wear say pink lenses, initially things would have pinkish color, but later your brain will correctly adjust for this effect and you will se colors normally.

Personally I don't know if they make such a request but I do know that certain head injuries will cause you to see things in similar way's.
