Has anybody ever read the Koran?

My dad's side of the family is Conservative and I constantly hear them talking about how Islam is not a peaceful religion, but goes on about how they must kill all non-believers. I also hear about this on Conservative news channels.
Now here is my question. Has anyone ever actually read the Koran and does it actually say that all non-believers must be killed or is that just something that is said my Islamic Terrorists?

"TAKFIR is an Arabic word. It means ""Kill all Infidels"" ???!
Since when? Takfir means accusing someone of being a non-believer.

Yes I'm sure alot of Muslim people have read the Quran.

I'm an atheist (former christian) but truely people you need to read a bit more!

The Quran actually says: kill the non-believers who are fighting you, who are killing your women and children and taking your land.

It's THAT simple.
Stop listening to the Media and try to read a bit before you decide to put these ideas in your tiny little heads.

It is not right. Don't discuss these with people who are biased or bigots. Did you read the Quran? If you read it only by itself you might not understand the context and circumstances on which a particular verse was revealed. If you read the Bible you will find ruthless murders,killings and incests. Read the first 3 books of Bible atleast.
You might try to explain and hopefully you will get the answer, if you study unbiased. If in Koran it was said that Muslims need to kill all non-believers then how there are so many Arab Christians( who are Christians for thousands of years) exists today living in different Arab Countries which were under Muslim Caliphate?

Yes, it is spelt Quran. Your father is quite correct Islam is NOT a religion of peace. The very word Islam means submission. here are just a couple of things that the quran says, although there are many more instances of this type in the quran. Unlike the Bible where all the books are named differently, the Quran is basically just "Surahs."
Speaking as an oracle of Allah, Mohamed commanded that all those who opposed his message be killed or that they should be nailed on a tree, or that their hands and legs be cut off, or that they be driven out of the land. Surah 5:36
In Surah 47:4 Muslims are commanded by Allah to smite the necks of all those who do not accept the teaching of Islam, until they are thoroughly subdued, and according to verse 7, they would be helping Allah by doing so!
There are LOTS and LOTS of instances like these in the Quran that incite Muslims to violence and murder.
Your father is a very wise man, listen to him.

I've read some of it. It does say to kill non-believers, but I couldn't really give an educated answer on the context. It also says some things about respecting Christians and Jews as "people of the Book".

I think most Muslims are not violent, just misguided.

The Koran is just like the bible in the sense that it says a lot of things, and was written over many years by many different people with different motives. People can take what it says to mean many things. There are Christians that use the bible to justify violence just as much as there are Muslims who use the Koran. They are all bastards, lol.

well, i don't know why this war on Islam really. all i can tell u is that Islam has spread by means of peace... by the way,, the terrosists that spread murder & killing everywhere are onlt muslims by words.. coz if u read the Qur'an.. there's nothing like that to kill non'muslims.. infact we're commanded to treat them well, nicely & with every respect.. I have read teh Quran and it does not promote Muslism to kill the non-believers.
Just like conservative Christians think that Quran teaches Muslism to kill the non believers, the same way conservative Muslims think that non muslism shall be wiped off teh palnet. its their personla views nothing promoted by Islam.

i wonder why all these attacks against the most or the only tolerant religeon on earth. minorities of all religeons and ideologies have been living peacfully in the muslim world for more than a thousand years.the prophet said peace be upon him"who ever hirts a themmy(non-muslim living between muslims) hirts me".on the other hand many examples are present nowadays to the intolerance of other people to each other and to muslims (race clearence in palastine,iraq,and bosnia) muslims are in fact victims.muslims are not the ones who invented bombs ,and till now they don't produce it in idustrial fashion as other nations do!!!! .there is too much ignorance about the quran and it's peacfull teachings,but it tells muslims to fight against enemies who ever fight them or kick them out of there land,which is justified .on the other hand to accept and preserve peace deals if rights are returned back.

I've read portions of the Koran. It makes for dreadful reading.
Gabriel said to Mohammed, "Carnage is better than idolatry." This means it is better to destroy churches and statues of saints and people's carvings of gods and goddesses and kill the people who stop you then it is to put up with this nonsense.
