Most commonly The Illuminati refers specifically to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment secret society, described below. However, it often refers to an alleged shadowy conspiratorial organization that controls world affairs behind the scenes, usually a modern incarnation or continuation of the Bavarian Illuminati.
