I'm not in a SWAT team but have known and worked with a few SWAT officers.
It really depends where you want to work. If your a law enforcement officer, which you have to be to join a SWAT team, you should ask your supervisor if they have one. If so ask about the qualifications.
Lastly, as a SWAT officer you should get Hazard Pay because of the high risk of your duties. Some smaller SWAT teams might not have the budget to afford paying their officers while others will.
I do believe if you join the LAPD SWAT team you get paid extra and hazard pay. However, I don't think they are considered "well paid", its not about the money nor should it be.
I'd like to note that I don't think a lazy eye would disqualify you unless it effects you ability to function as a SWAT officer.

Swat is a division of a police dept. or an agency. There is no SWAT organization. You have to join a police dept. or sheriff's dept. or like me be a member of the Highway patrol. Do your time on the street and after a couple of years put in for you departments, swat team.
