There are thousands of blacks converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. My husband is one of them. If you would like to be in touch with others there is a group called Genesis that is a Church group. They are to give support to other blacks who have joined the Mormon Church. You can get their newletter at http://www.ldsgenesisgroup.org There are some really great people in this group who would love to make you feel welcome and appriciated. I know being black and Mormon can be hard but is so worth it.

I have 2 black friends who are LDS. One was a Baptist reverend/preacher (what is the official title for their priesthood leader?) and one is just a good friend I met in my most recent ward. I've asked both about their experience in the church and although both are very positive they've had some tough times being accepted in the black community for various reasons--one was for his change in religion, the other was for what his associates said was joining the "white church." Whatever they have faced, both have exceptionally strong testimonies and I'm glad to know them.
There was a great Ensign article on the Brooklyn, NY ward and about how the testimonies there are incredible. That ward is over 85% African-American.
Welcome to the church.

I'm sure there are many, but hard to find on this website, Mormons are hard to find here too. I am also impressed! My dad is baptist and was mormon once, not really though, he just did it so my mom would marry him. Not really the right reason, they divorced six years later and she remarried the greatest man!
I have a very stron testimony of the divinity of the gospel and of Joseph Smith. What an AMAZING man! He suffered so much to restore the gospel to us and I am SO grateful he did. I love the quote by Brigham Young that goes (not exact) "Joseph Smith has done more for the salvation of man, save Jesus Christ only, than any other man who ever lived on this earth." How true! I love the gospel and I am so glad my Heavenly Father provided a way for us to return to him and live with our families forever!!!

Ha ha, can't say I'm cool enough to be born black. But I can say I'm mormon! And from baptist, too... I have to say I'm impressed. Not surprised, but impressed. The church seems to be attacked on African Americans not having the preisthood in years past, and baptists are famous for being anti-mormon. We don't have any black mormon families in my ward, but there really aren't that many black families out here to begin with, out here in the middle of nowhere. But, don't think you're alone. I've met other black mormon converts at things like EFY, and I must say I've found them all to be amazing people. I can only assume the same of you. I believe the gospel to be true no matter what your past, present or future is. And, ha ha, even though I can't say I'm black, from what I've read in here, we're still in the same minor category of "mormon". Cyber High Five!

No, you are not the only black latter-day saint. I'm not black, but I could name some black latter-day saints. Just think of our sister in the gospel, Gladys Knight!
I definitely have a testimony. I think you've made a fabulous decision. It's all true.

Joseph Smith said that blacks were a "dark and loathsome people". And the LDS church was the last major American institution to openly discriminate against blacks, finally ending it in 1978 after the government threatened to pull their tax status! Gee, why don't you just join the KKK?

Nope, my wife is black, and she is a convert. In Africa alone, there are 214,332 members, 3 temples, 305wards, 40 stakes, 400 branches, and 14 missions.

I suggest you read "Under the Banner of Heaven". It has some interesting lessons in mormon history, including their so-called "acceptance of blacks".
