Here's my answer. It is completely my opinion, and what I believe. I will not tell you that you must agree with me, but I will tell you that it's found to be my own research, not just by churches and leaders. I'll also add that I find the King James Version of the bible to be the most correct, because it's older and was decided upon by a group of people. Plus, it was not tried to be put into today's verbicidal language. Anyway, my answer:
John 17:21 says "21 That they all may be aone; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." This would mean that if the godhead (God, Jesus and The Holy Ghost) are one person, then we are part of them too. As much as I'd like to think I'm part God, I don't think so. It's no hidden fact that a lot of things in the Bible are not meant to be taken word for word, and it should also be kept in mind that English was not the first language the bible was written in. I believe that when Jesus says that he and the father are one, he means to say that he and the father are one in their goals, ideas and how they act. They are not the same person, just share the same goals.
This is also supported by the story of Jesus' baptism. He was being baptized, there was a voice from heaven, and the holy ghost descended in the form of a dove. Furthermore it is supported by Jesus praying. Would be be so vain and selfish as to teach people to pray by praying to himself? I think not.

You have "Person" and "Being" confused.

I am a human "being." Within my human-ness, there is contained 1 "person." That is the nature of human beings. There are many human "beings."

Fire has a different nature. Flame is a fire "being." Within fire, you can have many flames. You can take one flame and light 2 other candles, yet the FLAME on all 3 candles came from one and is no older or younger than the others. That is the nature of fire. We don't question it!

GOD is a divine "being." Within His divine-ness, there is contained 3 "persons." That is the nature of the GOD being. There is only one GOD "being."

The Father and Son "persons" possess the nature of the one divine "being" (God).

The Bible supports this in so many ways, i would be happy to share with any.

Incidently, if "I and the Father are one" meant Jesus and the Father were one in purpose, mission, etc.; then you and I (if we love God) could say the very same thing. Would you dare say you and the Father are one?

That is a great question and the answer is they cannot be the same. They are as separate as you and I are. God is the Father. Jesus is his Son. Jesus is the first spirit being God created, making him God's only-begotten Son. Jesus did pray to his Father when he was on earth and he was not praying to himself. There are so many Scriptures to prove that they are not the same.

In the real world they couldn't be the same person at any time...and couldn't be in two places at once.
In fantasy, you can make up anything you want -- which is why nothing in religion makes sense and is full of contradictions, 'cause it's all made up. Any time a contradiction gets pointed out, the sheep who follow this stuff can just say "god can do anything" and not have to resolve it :)

Its good to question the dogma. How else can we understand religion? I tend to think of it this way: Jesus came from Mary and God... He's kind of a holy-human half-breed. He carries his Father's characteristics, just like he had to resemble mom some, right? It's like being the illegit son of a King. Mom was scrubbing floors, Dad was Prince Edward... It's cooler to say "yeah, Dad was Prince Edward," than "Mom scrubbed his toilet." Same thing with Jesus. Carries more weight with people to say to them "I'm the Son of God," than to say "yeah, my mom got mysteriously impregnated by God, and she's a scrubby human just like you." It's all in how you spin it. People don't follow commoners.

Now, "Dad" is holding down the family business. CEO of Heaven Industries Inc. Jesus is going to be the VP in charge of recruitment and sales. Apostles, board of directors... etc. What Jesus is really saying is "I need you to get on board and purchase stock in this venture. I am the Son of God. He's tied up with all of his duties, and may not return your calls directly. But, I am His representative in all matters of the spirit. If you're talking to me, you're talking to Him. You can't get the approval of one for negotiations without the approval of the other. You can't go around me to cut a deal with Him. If it's a matter I can't handle, I'll take it to him personally." The bible wouldn't sound as, well, mysterious and official if it was written in a common way of speaking. Not all of it was meant to be literal. But, no one is going to trust it if it reads like a James Frey novel. And since the English (like King James) were the ones revising it, it had to sound a certain way. Hence the confusing language, weird references, repetition, and off translations.

Good luck with your pursuit of faith!

God warped the space time continuum so that it appeared from our perspective as humans on the earth that he was in two places at the same time

They are not and never have been the SAME PERSON. They simply have the SAME NATURE. YOu and your son would be described as HUMAN. YOur cat and his son would be described as FELINE. The father and his son are discribed as DIVINE or GOD.

THe word "God" in Genesis refer to THE SON
They word LORD or LORD God refer to the Father.
