"Gospel" is Greek for Good News. There's been a lot of that. The commonly accepted Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. There are other "gospels" purported to be written by Thomas, Peter, James, Mary Magdalene.... even one recently for Judas. The Church generally doesn't accept these now (even though Peter's was one of the most widely read in the first centuries, and Matthew's is obviously a Greek re-write of a Hebrew original).

MAtthew... written by an unliked tax collector to the Jews... Jesus is King of the Jews... Matthew means 'gift ogf God'
Mark... Peter;s account using John Mark as secretary... written to Romans and Jesus is servant
Luke ... Mary and other eyewithnesses account though Luke ... told to greeks and Jesus is the perfect man
