"The word made flesh and blood moved into the neighborhood."...Well, it's true I 'm a B I B L E lover through and through...I'll always long for that New Jerusalem version illustrated by Salvadore Dali that no one knows what happened to after she died... but that's just sentimental,The NIV is clear and usually in a left to right readable format, the New American Standard sacrifices some readability to accuracy of the original text Greek or Hebrew, this is the translation most of my early reading and memorization and meditation was in so this is the one that most readily comes to mind as it is more tightly packed into my heart, But I do love the Amplified version as it gives all the possible meanings of the words in translation, by it's nature then it is verbose like me and I have a fondness for it. And then there is my grandma's large print Living Bible ,this is a paraphrase not a translation, a paraphrase is usually from one person and is just what it says., a paraphrase.Useful ,but not exact or precise , but, oh how she beamed sitting back with it.And useful is after all the heart of the matter of bible study. The Message is now what I sit back and beam about . I think it ,too, is a paraphrase."If you want to follow me ,you have to let me lead." It's the disarming directness and daily applicability and the way it hits the mark that I am loving as well as the fresh look at what I thought I knew. But more than all of all the written words that I could ever read,I love the word made flesh the best God in me and you the kindness and love that can just keep flowing when ours has been long spent And not as we would have it but only as He intends just so no one misunderstands and mistakes me for the great "AMEN"because if it was up to me I'd never make a mistake again, which would be obnoxious and decidedly UNUSEFUL! So the word made flesh can help the neighborhood kids learn algebra,or not , all flesh being so much the same and different too.Whatever the bible I thump it's not written for information but...transformation through application.Patient, Kind , Tender and forgiving with mercy always stronger than judgement. (every time)"The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood."John 1:14 the message

Catholic version, it's bigger, hopefully one with a hard leather binding then you can play Captain America with it and get them on the run with a good Frisbee like fling...... And ~WhEn ThEy FiNaLlY dO cOme~ to you could look down over them & say in an overly enthusiastic voice, "Have you heard about our savior Jesus Christ?" Remember, you get more points the wider the grin you can muster. Look at it this way, even if you don't convert them,,, they'll always remember the day they were bible thumped, well that is depending on how hard you flung the thumping thing.

I don't "thump". I believe that most folks want to see how I live my life as an example of Christ. My preacher put it this way--"when you are a child, there is a game you play and its called Show & Tell, not Tell & Show."

I try and show my belief first, then if someone wants to know about it I usually give them an NIV bible. I also enjoy reading the Amplified bible. It makes Pauls letters read full of emotion.

The Church "according to the whole" (Catholic) determined the canon of the Bible in the late fourth century at the councils of Hippo and Carthage. All authors and writers of the New Testament were Catholics. It is Her book. Only She can interpret it with the protection of infallibilty promised by our Lord.

Hmmm.. there are the Jesuits and Jehova's witness at all time high for annoying bible thumping. I'm betting their Bible must have something pretty good in it for them to go crazy like they do. ;P
