I know you don't want to spend a lot of money, but I highly recommend splurging a LITTLE and buying salon quality products, as opposed to the cheap stuff like herbal essence, pantene, suave, thermasilk, etc. I like the lines of biolage and joico, but there are a lot of good ones. As other people said, find a formula specifically for color-treated hair. In addition to this, buy a deep conditioning treatment, or hot oil or something that you can do once a week and leave it on your hair for 15 minutes. Also, using a good flat iron will make your hair look smooth and shiny and will hide a lot of the breakage. The downside to that is that heated tools will do some damage on your hair over time, too. I tried the mayo thing as someone else mentioned and it didn't work at all for me, but didn't do anything bad either so maybe its worth a shot. If all else fails try leaving conditioner in your hair for a long time before rinsing it out so it REALLY penetrates the hair follicles. Good luck, I highlight my hair too, and I know what a pain it can be!

The damage to your hair will need to be cut off before any real repair can take place. With highlights(bleach) you will lose some of the moisture in your hair. Once you get the dead cut off start using Biolage Ultra Hydrating conditioner. It will cost u about $14 but it is worth it.

Try not to use any more damaging products for at least 6 weeks. If you flat iron, blow dry or use any kind heat for styling, like a heat-protecting styling product. And use a Shampoo and Conditioner for color-treated hair. I'm a Dove girl myself. It's inexpensive, and it works. You may also want to try a hot-oil treatment.

You should just let your hair grow out. Use the flat iron. That goes a good job. I use to want to get my hair highlighted but when my mom told me that it will break off I did not say nothing else about highlights.

PBT- you can get it at the beauty supply store. Use it in addition to a good shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. It looks and smells kind of like soy sauce- but it works!!!
