The Epistles show us the way that people are to live Christ-like lives and how the Church is to function within the framework of Christ. They also provide a history of the early church. One thing to remember is that when these books were written, the author(s) believed that Jesus would return in their lifetimes so it was very important to them that everyone get on the same page immediately and evangelize to the entire known world in anticipation of Christ's return. It is important to put the Epistles and indeed the entire New Testament in the correct context to it can be fully realized and appreciated.
