First, the hardcore Republicans are afraid of all immigrants when they do become citizens will predomantly join the Democrats. They already know America is already benefiting from the immigrant workforce ( millions strong) that fills the labor jobs that majority of the Americans don't want, or simply won't be dedicated enough to satisfy the employers. At this point, they don't want to hear the facts and the sound reasons that support keeping all immigrants, documented or not, who are decent hardworking folks, that are already here, and are contributing in American market and economy. The Senate, though Republican majority, is able to work out a comprehensive immigration bill that is realistic, humane, and makes sense. The House just needs to compromise, and get this over with. The hardcore Republicans are playing politics, not helping to resolve the immigration issues. They are dividing the country, by creating two for-or-against groups, so that time is wasted going against one another. Now, they are conducting public hearings. I don't remember them conducting public hearings when they decided to go to war, or other major issues that truly concern the Americans like public healthcare, education, human rights, to name a few.
The crux of the matter is that we are dealing with millions of human beings, decent and hardworking ( sure, some are criminals, but it's minuscule), who are seeking better lives. It's obviously important enough for them to risk their lives to come here, not being criminals, but contiributing with their hardwork. Employers would not hire anyone who is going to jeopardize their businesses. If anything, the Labor Law needs to change in order to protect all employees from being exploited.
America is America for a reason. It's a country of Freedom, of Free Market, of Democracy, of Human Rights, etc. And It has a history of immigrants contributing in building this great nation. America is not America if It does not welcome decent hardworking folks, no matter where they come from or how they get here. Any society or country needs and benefits from decent hardworking people. And it must not, however, tolerate criminals, whether they are native or foreign.
If the politicians care, they need to embrace these hardworking decent people, and start addressing the real problems, like getting rid of real criminals. Fortunately, there are Americans who are smart enough to see the difference.
I agree, 12 millions already, yes, it's time to slow it down. And there are ways to do that. That may take sending some of them back. But all 12 millions? That would not be a smart thing to do. I would start with those who arrived recently, and those from neighboring countries, like Mexico, Canada, etc. ( why? because there is a difference between hundreds of miles away and thousands of miles away). Again, not necessarily send all of them back. A Work Permit Program that works closely with employers is necessary. Details can be worked out. This Immigration issue can be resolved now, without a penny from the public funds, nor having to affect businesses and lives of decent hardworking folks.
And as for employers hiring people, employers should have the right to hire anyone they believe will help their business grow, and they should pay minimum wages to whoever they hire.
At the meantime, we can work on the real issues of what the government is not giving to the people what the governments of countries like Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, are providing to their citizens.
I forget to mention that, these immigrants will eventually come to value the American values of Democracy, Human Rights, etc. and will ultimately pass on to other countries. Ultimately, it's better to have more Americans that come from all over the world -this benefits America and the World in every aspect. It also makes it easier to bring the World together as One -like the Internet is doing.

You were fooled. This never had anything to do with harming the Republican's buddies in the corporate world's access to cheap labor.
It was a smokescreen for Iraq.
It was to solidify the most racist, white supremacist ellements of the Right wing.
It was to get Bush's base in order on an issue that is typically "conservative" (which should show any true conservative where the Republicnas are really at).
It was to create tensions between ethnicities.
The facts of the matter were ignored entirely. It was a scapegoating of undocumented workers who are some of the poorest people in the US.
now once you get past the outrage and your own predjucies that were thouroughly riled up (as planned). You may realize that -
many major U.S. businesses stand to gain tremendously from a guest-worker program because it will allow them to proceed legally with what they have been doing to this point illegally.

Some Republicans think one kind of reform - border security and limited immigration, is the way to go. The other Republicans think a different kind of reform - terrorist screening but unlimited immigration is the right way to go.
A good rule of thumb to figure out which Republicans hold which point of view is to determine which of them send their children to private schools. Those tend to benefit from a perpetual flood of poor labor driving down wages, and they don't care about public education providing upward mobility for the masses. The others are wage earners who don't want their children's education degraded. These also don't want to pay an ever increasing cost for ever decreasing health care coverage in order to subsidize illegal alien OR increased legal immigration education and health care.
The fact that they are in the same party doesn't mean they have the same opinion on this subject. One faction thinks it is not only possible, but imperative to deport those here, and make the rest want to leave by removing all reason for being here.
I have a question for you since your question makes it sound like you are a Democrat:
If Democrats are supposed to care about education and workers, how can they support a constant flood of people degrading the education we pay for and taking the 'fair wage' away from our workers?

Well, they have friends in the agricultural business. The "poor" farmers use them to work in the fields & packing plants. These are the same farmers who get subsidies from the feds because they just can't make ends meet. Ha! Now that is a farse. I've worked around these "poor" farmers and they are NOT poor in any sense.

They're not TRYING to stop it. The left just want amnesty and more votes for their party and the Republicans are letting it happen. How do you propose we get rid of 10-15 million illegals?

They aren't trying to stop any reform at all. They're trying to stop the Senate reform bill because it's a steaming pile of donkey manure, and it doesn't even begin to solve the problem. It's 1986 all over again.
They don't want just any reform to take place. They want the right kind of reform.

They're torn between their xenophobic constituents and big business. I kinda feel sorry for them because no way are they going to please everyone. And they benefit the US (and the Americas....2 continents) with taxes, labor, and they lower the cost of living. Your fruit would be at least 5x times as much without immigrants.

That bill gives amnesty to the illegal immigrants already here. That is not RIGHT!! It is a slap in the face to those who have been waiting YEARS by going through the legal procedures. They came here in an illegal manner, they should NOT be rewarded for it!!
It(Imm. reform bill)needs work and until they can get it right they need to tighten up our borders and stop the mass influx of illegals coming in at the Mexican border.
The HOUSE bill is the one anti-illegal immigant supporters want passed. The Senate bill is the one that gives the criminal illegal immigrant
'amnesty'. (there are dems and rep. in both) Americans are NOT benefitted by the illegal immigrants staying in the USA. This bill needs to be 'reformed' in order to be agreed to by House members and those of us who do NOT want amnesty for the illegal immigrants.
What will the Senate Bill do for illegal immigrants? Here it is:
Current Bill:
1. grants amnesty to the MILLIONS of illegals already here!
2. grants amnesty to illegals FAMILYS,who live OUTSIDE the country
3. admits HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of unskilled "guest workers",through a new "guest worker" program, with a direct path to permanent resident and citizenship!
4. admits 1.5 MILLION
agricultural "guest workers" with a direct path to citizenship!
5. increases the number of employment based, immigrants admitted to the U.S. each year,by 400%!!
6. gives the Dept.of Homeland Insecurity, the discretion to waive fines for employers who knowingly hire illegals!!
7. allows states to give ILLEGALS,in-state tuition benefits that they can DENY to citizens who live in other states!
8. requires consultation with the MEXICAN government, before we begin construction of a fence along OUR border!
9. creates new student visa programs, with direct path to citizenship!
10. allows ILLEGALS to claim Social Security benefits, for work performed ILLEGALLY!!!!
11. Adds a 10 year 'statute of limitations' to give amnesty to illegals coming in in the future if they provide documentation saying they were here for 10 years at any future point. (This to people who have been using false documents all along.)
12. Each of the guest workers in each of the 1.5 million person PER YEAR and 200,000 unskilled person PER YEAR program would, upon obtaining residency or citizenship be able to bring their families as well. This includes indigent parents at a time when we already don't know how we will fund old age requirements for the baby boomers.
The Wall Street Journal just touted a poll saying Americans are beginning to prefer Bush and the Senate's view to immigration reform. However, I've read the questions they asked. Had I not actually read the Senate Bill and had I been asked those questions, I'd have ended up being counted as supporting Bush and the Senate in this. People only approve of the Senate Bill if they don't know what it says.
They are not looking out for legal American Citizens. They don't listen to us. They are listening to freeloading illegal immigrants. If enough of the voting legal population will get their heads out of their butts and let their senators and representatives know how they feel about this atrocity to the American people they just might start to listen to us.
The laws on illegal immigration are already on the books, they just need to ENFORCE THEM
