I hear the distress in your message. First off were you on any of those meds before your admission to the hospital? If so I would continue on those. If you weren't then you should assess how you feel. If you feel you need the meds then take them. The lamectil will make you a little sleepy sometimes, combined with the xanax it will make you more sleepy. I'd be careful but I don't know what your tolerance level is. I would try and get in sooner to see your primary care. Tell them that you have serious concerns about the medications you were prescribed and need a 2nd opinion and that you don't want to take the medication until you do. To me it seems like that is a lot of medication for depression. Try to spend time with friends and family until you can get to your doctor.

While trazadone may eventually be an option your psychiatrist switches you to, it's important not to discontinue xanax until you are titrated off it appropriately as this can lead to serious health risks. Xanax works very well for short duration and is most responsibly prescribed for short-term use, which it appears is its intendended function for you. I would recommend you to keep your medication dosage until you see the your doctor and they can tweek everything. It's unfortunate you had teh experience that you did during your hospitalization. Having worked in the field for many years, it is not uncommon. Unfortunately many hospitals are only looking at immediate symptom management and that is usually to stabilize suicidality and/or psychosis. They typically, and unfortunately, do not look to accurately assess your entire history. They often feel this is the responsibility of your private psychiatrist and simply want to get you back home as quickly as possible.

Give the drugs time to kick in and see what happens. Lamictal has some side effects, I personally believe that they are more tolerable than taking some of the others. The main thing is to stay with a course of treatment.

You're on some heavy duty meds. I don't think your doctor was right for just putting you on these meds because you mother was on it before. Everyone responds differently to meds and it takes a lot of trial and error before finding the right mix for someone. The only addiction concern here is the xanax and you really should be taking it on a as needed basis. Antipsychotics take time to kick in and dosing should be titrated. I would ask to see you doctor again if you are not responding to the above regimen.

I wouldn't take anything I was afraid of or hadn't been explain carefully about. You gotta be a bitc& in the sytem in order to get the help you need. Be a squeeky wheel because they get the grease. Good luck and hang in there.
But don't stop lamictal until you talk to the doc after all you have been on it for a few weeks.

TAKE THE DAMN THINGS for one, you are SCARY to people around you if you are freaking out up and down all the time. And you probably are freaking yourself out too. So take a deep breath, I'll stop yelling at you.Doctors see BIPOLAR all the damn time, so you are not The Special BiPolar Person---AND...other than the xanax, the other meds take 2-3 weeks to "kick in", so chill out on yourself.
OK, now I'll stop yelling at you.
Good luck with that, it sucks to be bipolar but you can get thru it.

well, serequel is usually categorized as an anti pyschotic, usually works very well for people...xanax can be used as a sleep pill as well as for anxiety...trazadone can give people a hangover affect so it is important to get the right dose...therre are a lot of options for bipolar just meet with the dr not in the hospital and tell him that you would like to try something diff. keep in mind most psych drugs take a few weeks to work..unless they are sleepers or anxiety....good luck..don't despair you are not alone and there are a lot of options for you...

I think you better make a follow up appointment with a psychiatrist before you take all those meds. Bipolar is a very tricky disorder to medicate and what they are giving you sounds a bit excessive. Some bipolar patients don't respond to meds whatsover. Get yourself a second opinion.

WHOOAA!! I agree with you! You should not be taking a drug that the doctor prescribed because it was what your mom took.
Please find another hospital or doctor. Or go back there and require that someone else sees you. I would also put in a complaint to the hospital.
I hope you feel better!!

The prescribed medications will be okay to take until you see your regular doctor. Don't worry about addiction in such a short time, but if you still feel suicidal, find a counselor to help you. Hang in there...
