When any type of filling is done on a tooth, some sensitivity to cold and pressure is normal. The tooth pulp is just irritated and it will heal in a week. However, sometimes prolonged sensitivity to cold or pressure is due to that the filling is simply too "high" or worse - nerve is becoming so bad that it becomes irreversible pulpitis - you will need a root canal treatment!! See your dentist if the pain lasts more than a week.

yes, everytime a tooth is filled that cause slight damage to the nerve. The nerve will be sensitive for a few weeks but the feeling of hot/cold sensitivity should go away. If it doesn't go away in a month or gets worst contact your Dentist

"i thought you were a dentist?

if we didn't need wisdom teeth then why do they grow?"

I'm not sure if this was directed at me but I can give an explination.

Wisdom teeth aren't needed anymore because of out mostly soft foor diet, but like appendixs they haven't been completely crossed out of our genetic make-up though there are people being born now who never get their wisdom teeth, just like some people are born without an appendix.

This may depend upon the bonding agent the dentist used. It could also be a problem with shrinkage that occurs during the curing process. This is the price that is paid, along with inadequate contacts, for tooth colored restorations. We are working on these problems and when they are solved, all dentists will use them.

Ouch! I hate the dentist. I think any time they mess with your teeth the roots and gums become inflamed and bothered. I've had extensive dental work done and things in my mouth hurt that my dentist says shouldn't due to root-canals etc...

after drilling out all of the decay, i have to use 30% phosphoric acid to clean the inside of the cavity prep. this opens the litlle tubules inside the tooth allowing the glue to seep in. without it, the filling would just fall out. it sucks but it must be done to get a white filling. that's why i recommend silver in back teeth.

I've heard that it is usually due to the etch and bonding agents they use.
