no matter what engine you have from the 4 banger to the V-6 4.0 put a K&N air intake there Big Bucks $$$ but it is worth it i have the V-6 4.0 and i put it on and now i run high 12s on the quarter mile which is good for a truck and i can woop most "riced out, tuner" cars like hondas and such also i'd suggest installing cat back duel exhaustt with a glassback muffler dont go with flowmaster there to restrictive for little trucks like ours it will just cause you to lose HP's and Ca$h!!! Good luck !!!

I get 24 mpg at 65 in my 4x4 with the 4-oh. Leave the engine alone, work exhaust and computer chip. Like it for manueverability in the woods and the almost complete lack of recalls when compared to the rest of the Ford trucks. The 4.0 is a proven engine and the Ranger is a very well proven truck platform. Everytime I turn around Ford's making changes to the full-sized trucks, and every time I see trucks going back in for warrantry and recall it's more likely the full-sized trucks; especially the 6-oh diesel.

many things you can do first i would get rid of it and get a fullsize ford because they get the same gas milage and you get a lot more horsepower right there....prices are also dropping
