hopefully you have a wretten agreement thats signed between you and the deceased. If not then I hope you have a record of the payments. My suggestion woudl be to contact is next of kin and resolve it amacably. If not then you will have to take yoru documentation and petition the court to have them give up the title.

Go to the executor of his estate and show in the records that you entered into a contract to buy the boat and that you made the payments. The executor should give you the option of paying for the rest of it in lump sum, or getting your money back, provided you have a written contract. If you don't, you will have more trouble. Most estates want to close within one year of the death of the deceased. So if you had more than 1 year left on the payment schedule, you will have to make arrangements with the executor of his estate. Any arrangement you make will have to be approved by the probate court trustee. If he has no will, you will have to arrange something with his next of kin.

I hope you had some kind of reciepts. You contact the relatives and then if the boat is in his will you have to contest the will. I don't think you should have a problem as long as one of his family knew he was selling the boat to you and then apply for the title.

Speak to the person who is handling his estate. If you have any type of contract and/or canceled checks they should be able to give you the title. Good Luck.
