Trumped up backyard barbeque. Trumped up meaning, don't make it totally tacky with paper plates or anything, but make it like a rehearsal dinner.

We had pizzas and Wal-Mart deli chicken brought right to the church immediatley after the rehearsal. We used the church hall for this, and also invited any guests who were in town for the wedding. This worked SO well because many of the wedding party members had just arrived in town after long drives and were tired. Everyone was glad that they did not have to dress up fancy and spend a lot of time in a restaurant. We ate, and were able to retire to our beds at an early hour and get rested. This simple dinner took the pressure off of everybody, and by the way, everyone LOVED the Wal-Mart chicken, salads and dinner rolls. It was so good and so delicious and so affordable. We did some simple decorations of votive candles in the hall, and had plenty of paper plate, napkins, silverware and soda. This plan also kept people from drinking too much and therefore kept them in good shape for the next day.
KEEP YOUR REHEARSAL DINNER SIMPLE!!!!!

Picnic, BBQ, beach gathering... Depending on how laid back everyone is, a potluck would be fun. True, this flies in the face of the tradition of the groom's family paying for the rehearsal dinner, but if money is tight, maybe they could spring for the drinks or rent a hall or whatever and have people bring food.

Some will call this tacky, but I once heard of a couple who did a "McDonalds" rehearsal dinner. (or was it, *gulp* the reception??) Anyway, the point was that everyone got to act like kids and have fun and be silly.

You should have a wedding rehearsal potluck. It will involve everyone that will attend the wedding and it is quick and easy. Have everyone bring either a appetizer, entree, side dish, or dessert. This is a inexpensive way getting everyone fed and they can buy prepared food at the local supermarket.

Congratulations!!

Another idea is that if you and your future hubby are sports fans you could have a tail-gate theme rehearsal dinner. People can wear their favorite team gear and you can serve foods usually found at a tail gate party (ribs, burgers, fried chicken, etc.).

If there is a place famous for yummy decadent desserts in your area you could have a dessert dinner. That would be pretty inexpensive.

Also, if you want to beat the heat and go inside, a baked potato bar would be neat. You could have things like grilled chicken, grilled steak, salsa, chili, cheese, sour cream, grilled veggies, etc for people to top as they wish. It's pretty filling too.

Since is a outside wedding, make everything casual. Let everyone know come relaxed, and grill burgers or something, have chips. Pick up some cookies, maybe make homemade ice cream. I mean this is your rehearsal so the people that will be thier are close to you, they should be thier to support you and celebrate your big day. Congrad!!!!!!!!!!!!!May you be blessed with many happy, loving years!!!!!!

Woo! You're getting married the day before I am.

We were initially going to do a backyard BBQ, now we're doing a low country boil with it. Basically get a pot and boil shrimp, corn, sausage, and some other stuff, and dump it out on a picnic table. We've already done a trial run, and it was sooooo good - and cheap! Lots of fun too!

spaghetti bar....one pasta a few different sauces and some bread and drink.
pizza bar "make your own"
tell them there will be no dinner served and do an ice-cream sunday bar. yummy!
sub sandwich bar....one bread and 2 or 3 meats and 2 or 3 cheeses and mayo mustard.
where to have it? at your parents house or a home near by maybe his parents would like to host it. maybe you could do it at the reception hall if you are having one and do some decorating the day before. you could also have it in your church's ( I know you said it was outside but if you or you HTB or family member are a member of a church) fellowship hall.
