I added a question about starting my own religion and really want to add a comment to it myself - especially since I have a load of people asking me to convert!

Use the "Add Details" feature to do this...
It is found in the top right part of your question in a green box, where you can email the question, extend the time, delete the question or put it to vote - Choose Add Details and comment specifically at the intended answerer.
You can add comments to your own question to respond to people's answers & questions, especially to clarify what you have asked or give more details that will help people answer. I have done it, as has many people.

I know me too! I feel your pain... I guess this is why it's a questions and answers thing and not a chat room though? But I think you should convert too... pick me as the best answer and then you can add your comments!

I wish we could do that, respond to specific people. But I think you can update your question. However, I doubt most people will go back and read it again, so you might want to just ask a new one.
